For anyone who remembers my last thread, the horse I was sharing with the tendon sheath injury is to be turned away for at least six months on the vet's advice. I am very sad to say goodbye, but I 100% believe this is the best thing that can be done for her.

So...I have taken a deep breath, girded my loins (actually I haven't because I'm not sure how and vaguely think it might be something rude, or at least not appropriate for the office, but they are metaphorically girded) and started looking for a new share horse.

I have already exchanged a few emails with a lady who owns a 19yr old mare, and will call her this evening for a chat. The horse is a very pretty palomino girly who hacks, schools nicely and competes locally at low level dressage. I've always liked blondes but she is a completely different prospect to the kind of horse I usually pick out (ie a 15hh heinz not a mahoosive quirky warmblood).

However, having decided that 'sound, sane and close' are my only priorities, she looks like a really good bet. Given that I didn't do so well on my own :o I thought I'd ask you lovely lot for advice on what questions to ask on the phone, and what to look out for if / when I go to see the horse.

Also, I have already put myself on the back foot, by getting confused over bus timetables in our email conversation (don't ask) and have some ground to make up in terms of good first impressions! So, what do you look for when you first meet a potential sharer? My riding is hopefully up to scratch (or if not there's not much I can do about that now) so I'm thinking more in terms of showing that I'm practical and reliable.

Any thoughts??
