potential pony squisher??!!

Hi All

We are starting to think about getting a pony for my step daughter, we would be looking for a nice steady chunky naitive type, I have been toying with whether I could find something that we both could ride? she is a tall but not heavy 12 year old, Im 5ft 5 and 12 stone.

I would only use the pony as a happy hack, she would want to do pony club and all the rest I imagine.

does such a pony exist and any suggestions/thoughts?
 
I think you'd happily be able to find something to accomodate both of you.

any of the true native types so NF (proper type not showy type)/fell/dales/welsh C/welsh D of 13.2hh or above could happily carry 12 stone really.
the general rule for a well built native with good conformation, no health issues, and well muscled is a stone per hand, and although im not sure I would put quite that much on them they could all easily carry you :)
 
You will deffinately be able to find something to suit you both!

I am 5'6" and nearly 11stone and i would be happy riding anything native and a stocky type over 13.2. wouldnt worry about pony squishing at all
 
i am 5ft2 and 11 1/2 stone and my 14hh welsh c (papered as welsh c but outta height limit i believe) carries me happily, for long hacks, schooling sessions and jumps. u'd be fine x
 
I think I was nearer twelve stone than eleven and was five foot eleven when I was having great fun with a friend's pony who must have been about 14.1hh. Allegedly a Highland, but we thought maybe "miniature Suffolk Punch" :) I could hack out for hours on him, and on occasion he'd tank me round a small showjumping course.
 
I'm about 5'8 and have a 14.2hh Highland pony. We go out for 4 hour hacks and go SJ. She takes up my leg quite nicely and I've have my 9 yr old niece on her. She is a finer highland type.
 
Thanks all for responses, and totally take onboard what your saying bright eyes, easy to forget to factor weights of saddles and all the additionals. have my eye on a 14.2 cob cross, just need to convince her dad to come and have a look :)
 
A highland pony can carry a dead weight 13 stone stag up and down hills but still be under 14 hands.
Have a very calm temprement. Find the right one and your sorted for years.
 
Buy yourself a fell we have had all types of horses and natives and while i love sec d they can have attitude Fells seem to have really sensible placid tempremants and they are really handsome ponies.
I think they are really underated but all natives are lovely but maybe you shouldnt listen to me i am on 8 horses and counting 5 natives a warmblood and a cob so i am easily swayed.:)
 
God i am going to be lined up and shot forgot one of my horse in that line up ha ha had a stressful day i am really going senile forgot the partbred have to lots of grovelling if he ever reads this.
