Potential sharer coming to see my baby tonight

I'm getting more nervous now but I know it's what's best for my girl. I'm working too much at the moment and can't give her the time she needs, she's only been ridden 1/2 a week and although I'm sure she's happy to just sit in the field and eat so much she might pop, I am not.
As luck would have it someone has just moved in 5 minutes away from the yard and they popped their head over the gate to ask YO if they knew anything to share or loan and the next day I rang YO to mention I was going to look for a sharer for Bells! So YO popped a note through their door yesterday with my number on it and they text me a a few hours later to arrange a meeting after work today. She's a young teen who has been riding for five years so hopefully will be competent enough for my quirky Welsh D, she's reasonably straight forward but only has two gears, really really fast or really really slow.

I just hope they'll be a good match and love her as much as I do. I realise I'm writing this as if I won't be seeing her everyday which I will be as I'm all I'm asking is that they ride and do a bit of poo picking in the summer and a few days mucking out in the winter. If that seems fair?

If they like her tonight I'll ask they come back to ride on Tuesday as it's just a meet/greet type thing this evening but hopefully all goes well...definitely getting more nervous by the minute. Does anyone have any good sharer stories to help ease the nerves? ):
 
With a young teen I would be very clear on rules with your horse i.e. warm up, warm down and not thrashing her by cantering everywhere. I let an experienced friend and her daughter bring one of mine back into work after a long break and found out they had ridden her in canter on the first ride without a fittening programme ... poor mare :( they don't get rides anymore. Good luck I hope she is nice.

Yes with a young sharer just make sure she is aware of exactly what you want her to do with your horse. Good luck x
 
Thanks for the replies everyone, everything went really well. She seems very sensible and mum was present who has had horses in the past and didn't want to leap into getting her daughter her own pony. Daughter wants to do absolutely everything, even the dirty grotty boring jobs and even wants to come down on the days she's not riding to poo pick! She'll be coming up tomorrow evening just to help me do the chores and see what goes on and will ride her on Saturday as she has PC camp booked for next week. I stressed how important the warm up and down is as pony is susceptible to azoturia so they know to be sensible about it. YO and her daughter are always there anyway so they'll let me know of anything untoward is going on or even step in if something really wrong is happening but on meeting them no alarm bells rang and potential sharer couldn't stop hugging and fussing my girl so I'm happy as long as the riding goes well on Saturday :)

The best sharer I ever had started when she was 14, like you I was worried about her not being sensible and just wanting to jump and gallop all the time. She has been the most sensible and conscious person with my horses and I would trust her 110% she is now 19 and still comes to see my horses although she is now off to uni. Good luck the girl sounds lovely :)
 
my best sharer was only 13, she was very responsible and eager to learn, she had lessons with my horse with a very good instructor, she is now nearly 19, her mum and dad bought her the horse off me just over 2 years ago now, she still as him, competes regular with him and loves him to bits, sometimes the younger keener teenager is better than the older know it all person
 
Make sure you/they have insurance x
This could be a really good arrangement on both sides, give it a go, if you feel things aren't going as you would like just talk things through with them. You can always end the arrangement if it doesn't work out.

I also mentioned she'd be going on full loan next year as I'd be off travelling and doing foreign aid work and they were excited of the prospect of having her on full loan. They haven't even sat on her yet. That said, I'm going to let her have a little plod around on fatty tonight so she can just get a feel for her but she can have a longer ride and jump on Saturday still.

Thank you, AnyChance! I knew there was something I'd forgotten to mention, obviously I and the pony have it but I'll recommend she just gets herself some just to be on the safe side. :)

She does actually! A bit younger and a bit smaller though. Loves my mare but think she'd rather cuddle my yearling and stroke the dog which is fine by them as both are fusspots and attention seekers!
 
Really impressed with both PS (potential sharer) and the pony tonight. She just had a walk and a trot round but in the WORST conditions possible. It was very windy so I already warned her that pony might be a little more tense than normal to ride confidently past the scary bushes and ride how she would usually. And then we get to the school and how lovely, the Red Arrows are doing a display just over the hill and they are so close. Bells has a look a little snort and then carries on while they make hearts in the air and do loopy loops, PS rode her forwards and didn't let pony take the mick. And then the big test, the planes came right on top of us and were very low, I told her to halt and just wait until they passed which she did and then both of them went along their merry way and pony behaved impeccably from then on. PS was beaming and confirmed once again that she loved her so all is going well! Just hoping the jumping goes well on Saturday :)
 
If she's a member of PC then she will have rider public liability insurance through them.

Hope all goes well on Saturday.
