YIPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

vet has had swab results back and they had no culture growth, we opened the abscess this morning and there was nothing in it but air and no sign of anything?!?! pretty damn strange.

anyway, we told the YO, but she has decided to keep it quiet unless we have anymore fears. she will stay in and isolated until tuesday with turn out in her own paddock miles away from the others as long as she's happy there. the vet is very confident that its not the dreaded S, and the fact that the YO came to her own conclusion to keep it quiet and not start panic says it all. however, she will be ringing the new liveries to say that a horse has a sinus infection and we would like them to wait another week - they now wont be coming until may.

just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who wished me luck, and all those who made their feelings clear. i'm glad i'm not the only one to be worried about not forewarning people..

so fingers crossed nothing worrying pops up in the next 5 days, then she can go back out with others once we have the full and final all clear!!

Thats such good news you must be so glad

I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings here. Furgos had the same thing, swab came back clear, as they do, swabs are only 35 to 40 % accurate anyway, he also had the abcess. Your horse has strangles without a shadow of a doubt and your yo is totally irresponsible. Every horse on your yard needs to be blood tested, there is a new one that the aht pioneered last year. All the horses need to be kept in for the incubation period, about 3 weeks or at least til you know who has come back with what readings from the blood test.
All water troughs needed throughly disinfecting and everyone needs to be doing there own horses, if this is not poss then designate who is doing who and make sure there is no room for cross contamination. Putting your horse in on its own is fine, although that pasture will not be able to be used by any other unless they have signs or are positive and then they can go out together.
