Hi all, vet just been to Teddy and confirmed deep gravel and basically a load of mud and crap in all four feet! I've been vigilant but basically he's just got very poor feet. Poor Teddy!

Vet has told me that he can't get his feet wet for at least 2 month and suggested box rest for that whole time! I'm not keen on this idea at all! He did also suggest shoeing him....again I'm not keen although I would if I had to! It's just to protect his white line from the wetness and mud!

So, we agreed on day time turnout and night time stabled! I therefore need 4 poultice boots that can be used for turnout! Anyone got any suggestions as to which boots to buy...and quick! Thanks.

I tried the green Shires boot and it stayed on about five minutes. A friend tried a William Funnell one and had better luck, but I've found that padding covered with feed-bag plastic and duct tape is the only boot that lasts!

ETA: btw, the Shires boot has a plastic base but the rest of it is fabric and not waterproof

Argh! you poor thing!

Sorry, not much help in terms of poultice boots - all the ones I know are rubbish but the idea of using old feed sacks sounds a goodun!

I have to say I think putting shoes on him would be the worst thing you can do as more mud and crap can get caught under the shoes... never mind that he is still growing.

What diet is he on? could you perhaps add a supplement to his feed to help his feet?

If it's any consolation, Starsky's were terrible at Teddy's age but they have improved...

You could try old mac boots when he is turned out , failing that

put some duck tape round his feet over lap it, it will form a boots.. I do it when they have abscess and recovering i turn them out like that it works well

Hoofeeze from equine podiatry supplies stayed on my 2yo boys foot in the ice and snow. It was dead easy to put on and said it was not for turnout but survived 4 weeks of hooning and general digging around in the mud. They also do another poultice boot which looks more sturdy. They delivered next day and were really helpful. Google equine podiatry supplies and they have a website.

Davis Boot is a good boot, easy to put on and rinse out, friend borrowed mine on her TB and even though it was a touch on the large side for her horses hooves it stayed in place, so your horse is not bouncing around which I presume he's not other wise he wouldn't be needing a poultice boot on :D they have a thumbs up from me. :)

Thanks for that folks, I'll check those out! I'm trying to find something that is not too expensive because I need 4 and easy to use every day because I'll be putting them on and off for at least 2 month!
