Can anybody recomend a boot for use when poulticing the foot?
Tried using one of the green canvas types last night but it has been destroyed!
Any recommendations?

I never use the boots!! I put a poultice on, then two nappies one on top of the other, a layer of vet wrap and then a layer of duct tape. I have turned out in this arrangement and it lasts v. well - obviously though they can't really stop in them if they hoon about!

I do actually have a proper posh poultice boot somewhere in a cupboard but here is how I do it and I can turn them out in this too.

You need some silage repair tape or similar from your local farm supplies shop or cheapie hardware shop it should be about 3 inches wide.

A softban or Robinsons bandage (50p) it’s the one they use after operations that looks a bit like cotton wool, and is much cheaper than vet wrap to throw away.

Then put the poultice on and then the bandage, putting quite a bit of padding around the edge of the hoof go up the leg past the coronet band below the fetlock.

Now apply the tape making sure you cover all the bandage and make some extra turns around the edges of the hoof to allow for wear and tear in pratting about. Go up the leg and finish below the fetlock over the bandage and there you are. To remove use scissors or I use a scalpel, carefully! To cut it off. Finished picture below, hope it helps.

If you are able to turn out (ie on vets advice or just looking to protect the foot) The hoofeeze boot is fabulous, for inside the stable, the recommendation of taping is great and using a nappy makes it even easier!
