I need to poultice Benj's foot, could anyone give me some guidance on how to do it effectively?

Cut the poultice to a hoof-sized piece.
Soak, and place on hoof.
Drop poultice when horse decides not to hold leg up quietly.
Dust off shavings and repeat.
Place nappy over poultice (cheap one will do). Curse when horse's foot is too large for nappy and drop everything.
Start again. Fasten nappy and use tape or vetwrap to keep together.
Place plastic bag or boyfriend's sock over poultice and nappy, and tape/bandage around fetlock
Stand back to admire work, and watch horse move and it all falls off yet again.

This is my method! You will need - animal lintex, nappies, black gaffa tape
Get a patch of animal lintex, big enough to cover the hole or area that needs covering, soak it in warm water. Put over hole.
Have nappy handy and put it round hoof, with bottom bit under the hoof and secure it with the tabs provided.
Get gaffa tape and in a criss cross fashion wrap it around the base of the foot and round and keep going until all parts are covered.
I then find usually i need to make an incision in the front of the nappy gaffa tape right down the middle at the front as far down as where the hoof starts because it gets too tight then just put a little tape back over it.
I think this is by far the cheapest method and worked a treat for me!!

use the corner of a alfa a bag to keep it dry then use the duck tape .dont wet poltice for more than 3 days as the sole will start to soften too much so then start to dry poltice the same

Poor Benji - what has he been up to?
Whilst I have not had to poultice a foot, when Fleur had to have a foot dressing, I used the really strong carpet tape to keep things in place. I have also heard of using old cloth sacking round the foot to hold the poultice in place.

I put animalintex over the site, piece of gamgee over animalintex, then vetrap over the whole lot. Then for extra security, I put the foot end of an old pair of thick tights over the hoof and tape round the top! Keeps it in place really well and is cheap. You could always put one of those boot things over the top as well. My gelding used to get abcesses in his hooves regularly and I always did my poultices like this.
