I was wondering as I poulticed Kelly's wound today, when i took it off tonight it had some lovely gunk on it, so very pleased its working. I will apply another one in the morning. When you poultice how long do you leave it on for? I left it on from breakfast till tea time, are there any benefits to leaving it longer?
Hmm evening ponderings.....

I left it on from 9 till 4 today and thought that was long enough, it was mentioned about leaving it on overnight but ive never left one on for that many hours??
Hmm think ill keep doing what im doing then??

Hiya I think it just depends how much is coming out at first - For foot abcess Vet normally recommends 12 - 24 hours 12 if loads coming out. I know you should only wet poultice for 5 days on the foot but thats to stop it going soft - hope that helps

good luck

You need to change it at least every 12 hours, more if possible (particularly if it is drawing out pus/dirt well. You can poultice 24/7 as long as you change it frequently and not for more than 3/4 days because it can encourage proud flesh if you poultice for too long.

Its her leg wound im poulticing??
But thanks for the replies.
