As we have been fly spraying all the cattle over the last few days, just got me wondering if you can use any of them on ponies as I have one with bad sweet itch.
Any experiences or anyone know?

I wouldn't use cattle pour on with the horses - for one it isn't licensed for equine use, but other than that I would just be too worried. It is probably perfectly ok, but I am a worrier.

Having said that, you know the fly tags that you put in the ears of cattle? Well, we plait those into our horses mane and tail, or attached them to headcollar and bridle and they are fantastic at keeping the flies away!

OH farmer too, and once asked supplier about using stuff on my nags. Said definitely no, although I personally think this was just to cover themselves, possibly hasn't been tested on horses. probably be fine, but I must admit I didn't want to risk it.

Vet told us to use Deosect as horse on yard had maggots in his sheath last week... .

MQ - Deosect is approved for horses, and is fantastic. We use it on all of ours (in addition to cattle tags) and find it brilliant - just be careful you don't get it in your eyes! The only thing with Deosect is it is potentially quite dangerous to people, and you should wear gloves etc when handling it.

We used pour on, it works quite well but does leave a greasy mark where you apply it. You can't buy it if you say its for horses as its not licensed for them, we had no probs.

In Your horse magazine they suggested kerosene which is heating oil or bbq fluid you mix i think 2tbs in a 5g bucket of warm water then transfere into containers for storage and sponge on. Very cheap if it works

I had heard there was a pour on for horses (pretty much identical to the cattle one) coming out but have heard nothing more.
