Been a few pieces in the local paper over the weekend saying the BE at Bicton will not be returning as building work has crossed the xc course.

The BSJA will stay at Bicton though.

The good news is that Powderham (nr Exeter) a lovely event that folded about 8 years ago is going to be resurected. The organising team from Bicton is moving accross and Mike Etherington Smith is building a new course. It will restart in 2008 with PN, N and Intermediate. The year or so after that they aim to run a CIC* & ** and then eventually a CIC***.

well the building work HASN'T crossed the BE course from what I saw! the actual reason is that the building work was a bit of a health and safety hazard according to BE. They are literally building right behind the cantine building and toilets up to the 'road' (track) junction. and so it is literally a building site in that area.

Add to that the area used by the BSJA as the permenant stable lorry park is now out of bounds and this of course was the XC work in area for the BE event.

The XC course as far as I could see was completly unaffected otherwise when I was there a few weeks ago and there is a ODE being held there on the 20th of May.

The only loss to SWSJC is that part of the lorry park but that has been transferred to the field literally behind the stables which is normally used in August as the overflow carpark.

Also contrary to rumours the water complex is untouched. From what I gather once the building is complete they hope to run the BE event again but as there was due to be part of a building at the time of the competition it was decided against.

There is an article in either Ridgeway Rider or Equestrian Now this month about it (mainly the SJ but several references to BE) and that seems very positive that its not completly scratched off the fixture list so fingers crossed!

Last time I ran at powderham did the Novice in 1998 - remember it being very straight forward!

I did the JRN at Powderham in 1999

so disappointed about Bicton, loved that event !

Exciting that Powderham is back on the calender though, I remember going there to watch a good few years back when I was all starry eyed.. as my Auntie lives close by.

We can't wait, it's our nearest event and I even shop there occasionally. I have seen plenty of the old course and it's just nice, lots of little hills but nothing too steep.
Not happy about the rabbit holes though, hopefully the past accident will make them vigilent about filling any in..
