Is anyone still managing to go out or has the weather put pay to hunting for most of us?

Our hounds were out on foot on Sat but can't see the field mounted in the near future - real bugger as had just got new horse fit enough to hunt and had one fab day with him, but now back to square one as too icey here to do anything excercise wise.

Hope the weather isn't going to ruin this season too.....

Hunting cancelled for us too and can't see us being out for a while. Attempted to go for a hack on saturday but it was too slippy, i've given up & they are both just out in the field all day. Have just got new young horse too, and was just beginning to do a bit more with her but will just have to wait now..bloody snow!:(

Hunt was cancelled this Saturday due to snow - no one knew it was coming either :(

It's doing my head in - it was our first time and I was geared up for a hunt!

i was out Tuesday and it was glorious sunshine...Saturday we had our day cancelled as the ground was...and still is frozen solid.

at the weekends it isn't too bad as i can wait till early afternoon and hack on the roads but in the week when i am working its a nightmare as too slippy to try and get out in the morning, too dark after work and the school is frozen solid...so quirky hunting fit horse is is fun to handle!!

I decided against it on saturday, didn't want to risk my lad and couldn't imagine how I'd remain warm even on the fastest line so commonsense privailed!!! Lucky as it turned out because a few lorries got stuck on the lanes to the village it was being held so doubt we'd have even made it in the first place. Would be lovely to go out on such a fresh day but with the ground as hard as it is my boys legs are more important than my fun.

We cancelled on Saturday at 12pm. Only 6 people had managed to get to the meet and the roads were diabolical!

Hunting cancelled for the forseeable future.

Was planning to go out last Saturday, but ground frozen hard so hunting cancelled. Have permission from DH to attempt to go again this Sat but if the weather stays as cold as it is, I expect this Sat will be cancelled too. All year I have been saying " this year I WILL go to the Boxing Day meet" but who knows?!?!?

Hehe sounds like mine - and she's not even hunting fit yet!! I try to ride in the mornings but I don't want to risk the ice and work until 5pm where it is pitch black, so will only be riding on the weekend. She already had 6 weeks off from the beginning of September, she's having it too easy!

I am gutted about the weather! I got my new hunter last October after 4 years of no riding or hunting because of having babies. Spent two hard months getting him fit to hunt last year, spending money on babysitters, mucking out at silly am with grumpy children shouting for me only for it to freeze and I only managed 5 days near the end of the season.

Now this year same again! Two months of hard work (although the children are easier this year, they just come to the gallops or cross country course or arena with me and tell me what to do!) and have only had 2 (pretty bad) days this season.

I am feeling a bit, what is the point?

Ground frozen and sheets of ice all over rthe lanes so no hunting here for the the next few days.

Scenting conditions are pants anyway so no great loss.

At last I can now get out lamping without coming home with the quad bringing half the fields back home on it.

Sharp weather make the foxes a sight more keen to come and investigate the squeaker too. So an added bonus there.

Anyone noticed how stupid dumped urban foxes are when lamped? Maybe not. LOL

Fish in a barrel.

Still at least the animal rescue fools think they are giving them a better life out on the country. Only thing is its only for about a week and a half max until we have mopped them all up. PMSL
