Also in veterinary section. Does anyone have any experience with this, as I've only had one reply in the veterinary section. A friend of mine has a 5 year old mare who has just been diagnosed with chronic PPSM. What we are looking for are treatment/recovery stories both good and bad and diet advice for people who have had horses affected. I've read quite a bit of stuff on the internet re: diet as has the owner but we can't locate any research studies on long term prognosis, or diet treatment effect. Please ask around and if you are a vet please do you have any useful info/comments to make?

PPSM, Not PSSM?

AM if it's PSSM it's Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy a "variation" for want of a better description, of tying up.

PPSM, I have no idea!

There's a USA Dr that's don a lot of research into it & I found her stuff really helpful when researching PSSM & ERS when my boy started tying up.

Hold on I'll see if I can find it.

June Equi-ads also had a helpful 3 page article on it too. I can prob scan to you if you can't find anything else.

Dr Stephanie Valberg. She has a lot of publications into PSSM & seems to have done a huge amount of research into it. Good article here to take you through the basics:

USeful PSSM info

Also at the bottom of that page it lists where you can find out more about PSSM.

Maybe worth trying to contact her.

I seriously considered it before we worked out what triggered my boy, and I still will if he ties up again.

Good Luck, I know how distressing it is.

I think you mean Dr Beth Valentine. Search on google also under EPSM. A friend has a horse diagnosed with ppsm, he is on the high oil diet and is a picture of health now.
I have always been a traditionalist,on feeding horses(if it doesnt contain oats, its not horse food),but Dr valentine,s work has really made me re evaluate, myopinions.
Good luck and get reading.

Sorry ,I should also have mentioned Dr Stephanie Valberg,
A search under either ,should lead you into the same information sources.

I was sure the name I was after was Valentine initially but I'm getting my US PSSM Dr's muddled up now!
