Thinking about winter ...... need some really comfortable boots (so not muck boots or wellies) for winter, not too heavy as i walk a lot turning horses in and out and must be waterproof even when a bit wrecked (as they will be by end of winter). I will muck out a lot of stables everyday in them so the aemonia will rot them but if they could see me a winter or two that'd be great, but the main thing is that they stay waterproof even when getting a bit worn out (if that is possible). O and long is better cos then water and mud doesn't work up my jeans!!!
Durburry's out of my price range tbh as would trash them so would be a waste.
So please could i heave your suggestions as will order on internet so won't get to try on. THought the dublin river tall boots, the toggi Hamilton, the DH country boots.
Thanks

I have Ariat Grasmeres. Still fairly pricey but worth it. They look a bit like they've had a tough paper round but still waterproof and very comfy and cosy. I haven't exactly been overly keen with the polish either. I actually had to cut the mud off with a knife after Burghley XC day last year so they're well capable of standing up to mud. Having said that I wouldn't wear them every day for going in the field - wellies for that.

Incidentally I believe the soles are treated with something to prevent rotting with ammonia.

I've got the Tuffa Suffolk boots, had them for 3 years now and are still waterproof ( i use them like wellies so i dont hesitate in wandering around in mud/water etc!) There lined with sheepskin too and are lovely and warm!

They take quite a battering as i'm on DIY and its a bit of a mudbath in winter so I've re-proofed them twice in the 3 years with a nikwax product and they are still going strong. I paid £120 for them but not sure if you can get them for that now.

I call them my Mad Max boots but i dont reallyknow why cos i'm sure mad max didnt have any like these!

I know you said no wellies but, you won't go far wrong with a pair Chameau neoprene lined boots - I have had mine for years and years, worn everyday at the yard (all year round) and I ride in them. They are warm, comfortable and very durable

I also have a leather lined pair but keep them just for shooting

I know you have said no Dubarrys, but have you actually tried some? I was convinced they would never be justified with how much they cost, and wasn't really sold on them, but after borrowing some last burghley (madly muddy!) and using them beyond that, I realised I couldn't be without them.

Now I have some, and oh my word I love them!!

and I have no worries that they will last me long enough to justify the cost

I bought a pair of cavalry collection, look a bit like dubarry but without the hefty price tag, a friend of mine has had hers 2 winters and she owns a yard of 10 horses so she lives in them which is why I bought them (paid about £40 on ebay)

Ariat Grasmeres, supremely comfortable! I have chunky calves which make Hunters very uncomfortable and cheaper wider wellies split quickly. My Grasmeres fit beautifully, even over jeans (something I could never do with Hunters), are 100% waterproof, withstand mucking out and are good to ride in too. My only complaint is they're too warm for me to wear through the summer!

I have a pair of the Ariat Mudbusters, and whilst they are wellies, they are neoprene lined so nice and warm, but are slim cut with a proper heel so suitable for (and designed for) riding. Only had mine half a winter last year, and they poo all over the rubbish (new style) hunters I had
