Another lurker. I have followed this thread with hope and am so sad at the outcome. My little mare fought for a week to survive (4 years ago, she was poisoned but we don't know by what) before she looked at me and I had to say, go find Robin (her friend) it's okay. Within the hour she had gone, she had nothing left to fight with. My thoughts and prayers are with you tonight and in the days to follow. RIP Bear.
 
Read this last night, so came back hoping to hear that all was well- so sorry to hear that it did not turn out thus. But a peaceful death - I had one several years ago, much loved elderly pony, who went a similar way. Very, very sad for you. xx
 
Can't get over how many replies there have been to my posts!
I'm honestly touched by how many of you have taken the time to share lovely words and shown so much kindness towards someone you know as just a name on a computer. It's so thoughtful and reminded me there are some amazing people left in the world :)

It means a lot - every single one of you xx
 
Have only just read this thread from beginning to end, i really feel for you, poor bear, but well done you for being strong and doing the best for him until his end.

I have never heard of this before, but it sounds like it is very rare and its just very unfortunate that it happened to bear.
