PRE people, favourite rug brands?

I bought Hermosa a Swish 5'9 rainsheet last year, and I'm not wild about the fit. It's too deep but a bit tighter through the shoulders than ideal. Gypsum (Shire-TBx) used Swish rugs and I loved them, but I think it's just the wrong shape for Hermosa. She's in it tonight because she is still on 24/7 turnout in an exposed field, and she was shivering and miserable, so I figured it was better than nothing.

To those with PREs and similar horses, are there any brands that work well?

If you’re looking for budget I have a Gallop rain sheet that fits well. I like Premier Equine but they’re quite expensive. Weatherbeeta are a good middle ground.

The Gallop Trojan Xtra rugs are a good fit IMO. I hated the original Gallop rugs and their shape did not fit well on anything that I'd seen them on. I tried a friends Xtra and it fit beautifully. They are an absolute bargain too for 1200D.

You could try a rug chest expander, that's what we used on an Amigo that was too tight in the chest for a PRE. A larger size rug would have been too long.
If buying new, I would look into the Horseware rugs made for wider horses.

I personally am Horseware all the way.
I am working at a little livery pt at the mo though and a horse there has a gallop Turnout and I hate to say it but she’s always dry and it’s very light weight and easy to whip on and off.

I always used Rambo turnouts and liners on my PRE. He did have an Amigo sheet and a Weatherbeeta sheet that were alright. The Weatherbeeta wasn't totally waterproof (it was their Comfitec dynamic model), but usually they're a decent rug. I preferred the Rambo rugs but liked the wither padding on the Weatherbeeta.

Shires is the only lower priced brand that seem to sit right and be broad enough. Or some of the Horseware line are good if going for something more expensive.

got a shires highlander with the integral neck cover, 200 gm on the biggest 16. 2hh, its deep so is he, it sits on well and does not fall round, he gallops about a lot and rolls a lot, its easy to lift on and off and looks very smart

i would buy more if other are needed as i like it better than some of the dearer ones

Bucus rugs fit my little PRE really well as they sit more forwards on the neck.

The humongous shouldered PRE has a range of rugs including premier equine, shires, derby house and ruggles that all fit reasonably well.

Your horse has a similar front end to one of mine although mine is broader behind.

6ft6 tend to come up small on him but 6ft9 are too baggy. The 6ft6 in Gallop Trojan Xtra fits perfectly while still having room for adjustment. They have buckle and clip front fastenings for adjustability.

It has to be the Trojan Xtra range though, not a standard Gallop rugs.

Admittedly I am / was a bit of a brand snob and I was reluctant to try Gallop rugs. I am now fully converted and own the whole range from waterproof fly rug to 350 gram heavyweight turnout and everything in between. Any existing rugs that need replaced will be replaced with this range.

Another plus point is that I bought mine via Amazon, but from a saddlery, so I had peace of mind that if a return was needed it would be straight forward.

I rate the Gallop Xtra rugs too after being sceptical. Bought on recently and are good quality for the price. i think it was about £45 for a 1200d lightweight and so far it has been fine even in heavy rain.

Yowza. Looked at the Rambos online. I love my horse, but I don’t think I love her enough to buy her a bloody £300 (almost) rain sheet. Sorry, Hermosa.
