Predicting Hieght (String thing)

I wondered if I could do this on my 14 month old yearling? Could someone explain it VERY simply, step by step, for a blonde...

don`t know the string thingy but i had a tbxsec D who was 13.3 at 16months old and ended up at 14.3.
your new boy looks v. sweet.

to predict a yearlings full height, measure legs, hold one end of a string at the point of elbow and pull the other end straight down to fetlock, keeping your hand at the elbow bring the fetlock end of the string up and above the withers, then add another inch to see how high future withers will be, for a foal about approx 2 inchs. i have uased this method for lots of years, it is from an old american idaho horsewoman.

The string thing seems to work pretty well in my experience.
