My horse is on 14 x 25mg tablets of prednidale tables for two weeks, trying to get hold of the vet seem like an impossible job atm and I was wondering how long does it take for prednidale and all its mtabolites to clear out of a horses system?

My last horse was on 50-100tablets daily long term and we had to take him off them so we could do a biopsy so we got a clear picture of what was wrong with him. We took him off them for 7 days and on the 7th day the biopsy was taken as that was the shortest time my vet would allow him to come off them.

Not sure if much help to you but I would say around 7 days from what we did with my boy.

Tried to find it on NOAH but as they are not liscenced for use in horses it doesn't say.

Just a warning you do know to taper him off them? ie don't just stop giving them but to reduce the dose gradually? If you can't get hold of your vet direct why not ask someone at the clinic they should be able to help.

If it's for competing purposes then I would say 30 days to be on the safe side.

This actually isn't totally necessary. The worry with abrupt cessation of treatment is that the adrenal gland is suppressed by the steroid treatment, and an Addisonian (low steroid) crisis will ensue. Recent trials have shown that even with minute doses of prednisolone, horses' adrenal glands are still totally suppressed. Essentially, even when we wean them off steroids very slowly, we are still abruptly ceasing treatment from the point of view of the adrenal glands.

Having said this, a tapered approach to steroid withdrawal is still often favoured for monitoring of the underlying disease's response to lower doses of the drug.
