Just looking for some advice/guidance. I have 10.5weeks to go in my pregnancy, I haven't ridden since I found out I was pregnant. Previously I had x2 miscarriages and one was after I had been riding, I'm sure it wasn't linked but I thought better to be safe.

I am missing riding Mitzi dreadfully, hopefully she would say the same ;)

How long after I have given birth will I have to wait before I can ride?? I am desperate to get back in the saddle.......:p My husband would wrap me up in cotton wool for months I think (bless him) but I really miss riding my girl.

Any advice/thoughts/experiences appreciated.

Thanks

I waited the full six weeks after both my pregnancies. The first time around I had stiches in a place you REALLY do not want a needle to be going so it would have been very painful, not to mention downright silly, had I ripped them. The second time I actually left it a lot longer as I had undiagnosed SPD thanks to the doctors in the materiny hospital and I was in no fit state to get on a horse before I had a lot of physio and time to strengthen my pelvis. Even if you have none of these problems bear in mind you will be as weak as a kitten for a little while. I would err on the safe side and leave it six weeks. Some people on here have gotton back on sooner - it depends on how you feel. Good luck!

I'm sure you will know when it feels right - don't bother making plans now, until you know how the birth goes! I waited 2 months after the first as I had stitches everywhere. After my second, even though I had post-natal complications, I was happily riding in under a month - no discomfort at all, just not as much core strength as I was hoping for!
My boss rode after 2 weeks - there are just no rules, your body will tell you.

Good luck for D-day!

Good advice above. I know someone who took over a year to get full feeling back where she had a c-section. Obviously she could feel some things before then but play it by ear in terms of whatever bit are weak/stretched/healing up nicely. You might find you're a bit busy too!

Can't help with the question, but if it makes you feel any better, I am 20wks pregnant and still riding (OK, the feeling better bit is just about coming up!!!) and it's not really the same! I get tired very easily, I can't really do much with no stomach muscles and I get very worried when the horses play up so the whole thing is just a massive effort to keep the horses relatively calm for as long as possible rather than the usual pleasure. Give it time and go back to riding only when you are good and ready.
