Ooh how exciting!! I feel your pain with greys though, having a white grey Connie who only has to look at a field (or stable) to turn all sorts of unwanted shades 😏 I love a nice bay and so much more forgiving cleaning wise!

I think it was the face that did it for me! Not only is she pretty, but she has a kind and honest look about her so hopefully that is the case.

For those interested in bloodlines - She is by Power (by Oasis Dream) and out of a mare by High Chaparral.

If anyone has any thoughts on a feed regime I'd be interested to hear them :)

She's gorgeous! Will be stunning when she fills out. I love High Chaparral, all his progeny are snapped up quicksmart here (Aus) but I am always on the look out ;)

My TBs have always done well on lots of hay and copra in the winter (plus vitamins/pellets). I'm sure someone will have some suggestions for feed available in the UK.

Yes with High Chaparral on one side abd Oasis Dream (who is Green Desert/Dancing Brave) on the other makes her a very exciting mare on paper!

I usually go for ad lib haylage and a balancer when starting out with a new one but since the grazing here is rubbish, and will only get worse as we approach winter, I want to ensure she doesn't drop weight as they're usually a nightmare to get the condition back on
 
Well we are off to collect her on saturday (not tomorrow, the 4th)!!!

Apparently she is living off fresh air at the moment and doing well, but the racing yard she was at apparently said "do not let a single oat pass her lips..."

Which I am assuming means she is pretty easily het up!

Thinking I will go for a balancer alongside some fibre based cubes, and ideally a non alfalfa chop.

Have chosen the name Ayita, which means 'first to dance' and will call her Aya for short (will pronounce it Eye-Uh, regardless of whether thats the correct way or not🙈)
 
How exciting! A thought though: as we're finally having some rain (I assume you are too? not sure obviously) and therefore the grass is potentially about to go mad, it might be worth laying off the hard feed for a couple of weeks while she settles? Particularly if she's living off fresh air.

Love the name!

The grazing is honestly awful, think field of weeds rather than actual grass :( the grazing where she is currently is amazing apparently so would make sense that shes doing well on it, given time of year, and that she's been let down for past 14-16weeks after leaving racing yard.

It has been abused for years unfortunately with zero maintenance and having had horses on it continuously 24/7 with no rest, throughout winters etc. Never been reseeded or fertilised. If we are lucky enough to be able to buy it then we will ensure the land is given lots of tlc, but I'm loathed to pay out for someone else - and when we may have to move at any time (atm we have free use of it because owners leave ponies there and we keep eye on them!)

Will probably just go for a balancer/grass chaff and see how she does until she's settled in!
