My mare who should be 68 days in foal was showing signs of being in season this evening as she was 'winking' after urinating. Am I to assume that she has lost her foal, or does anyone have experience of mares showing in season and managing to stay pregnant?

All was well on her 40 day scan, she is booked in for an 80 day scan next week. Can anyone give me any reassuring words until I know for sure next week?!

Thank you.

My mare was exactly the same, at 65 days in foal... she was acting like a complete hussy squirting at the geldings, and was straddling her back legs whenever one came near her at the hedge!!!

I took her for a scan for peace of mind, and all was fine, the foal was still there... the vet explained that some very 'tarty' mares will show signs of being in season all through their pregnancy, which mine did. My foal was born absolutely fine though and is now a strapping 7 months old colt.

I wouldn't worry too much, but I would speak to your vet in the morning and bring her scan forwards more for your peace of mind than anything else. 80 days seems a strange time. I had 14, 15, 21, 28, 42, 65 (due to showing) and 100 days manual.

I'd bring the scan forward as well if it were one of mine - there's no way you'll be able to not worry if you're waiting for an extra week!

As mentioned above, some mares will show throughout gestation, but it isn't overly common. It is documented well, so I'm sure she'll be fine and you should try not to fret too much!
