I've got both this test and an e-riders one where the movement goes to E and then you immediately turn up the diagonal to M.

i hate losing accuracy marks so how tight am i turning? The e-riders one comes across the short diagonal to E then immediately goes to M whereas at least with this you're on a bit of a curve.

Our canter is still a bit motorbike so need the walk marks! TIA

I’m going to answer what I think is right with the intention of being educated by more experienced members responses. Sorry to use your post for this! 😅

I would ride it as a true half circle so it ends with you looking straight down the long side with yourself at E and the horse truly straight. But the next stride would almost be (to exaggerate) a turn on the hindquarters onto the straight of the diagonal. In theory it would be no different than riding any other short diagonal from E as you should end your circle straight. However to show a real change, you’d want to be moving the front end over immediately after you (as the rider) have passed E, finishing the circle.

no advice as this will be our 2nd ever test and we’ve not run through it, but if it helps i’ve got the diagram version😂

Use away! I've found people on here very helpful.

That almost turn on the quarters is what I was thinking but then I was wondering if that's a bit too much for prelim.
The e-riders one is like the tip of a triangle so that confuses me more (doesn't take much tho....)

By the time you get back to E after the circle you should be straight. So think 1 straight step, hit E, then a straight step and turn to M.

It is actually a really nice thing to ride, you are in walk so plenty of time and the circle has set you up nicely for the change.

There's something like this in Intro 4, I just got to E then like SOS said I asked the front end to move over to go down the short diagonal. I'm waiting for my sheet as it's being posted to me so I'll be interested to see if I got it right, having never ridden 4 before I guessed at how to ride it 🤣

I don't think I've ever ridden 4!

@doodle thank you. Need to practice before the weekend.

This. Don’t overthink it, the movement will flow nicely. If you start thinking about turn on the quarters you might end up disrupting the rhythm or straightness!

I hadn't seen 4 until idiot it last week, there is plenty in there!

Watching my the video of my test I have got straight at E then just turn, I used more outside leg to bring shoulders round but other than that it is just a "crisp" turn. In 4 it is part of FWLR.

Eta, I'm probably explaining this really badly, not a turn on haunches as such, just a feeling of using outside leg more to come round.

It’s really not a tight turn. On a 20m circle you are pretty much on the track for 3 horses lengths, one before the marker with the quarters still coming round, one at the marker and the other after the marker when the shoulders are coming back off. When teaching children I actually tell them to do 3 strides on the track if circling at A or C (they never do!!)
At walk you will follow the circle back to the track, and when your body is level with the marker just turn to look at the corner marker and allow the horse to turn onto the diagonal.
The judge will be looking for a smooth turn with the horse not falling in or out and a similarly smooth turn back onto the track at the other end.
Good luck!
