Has been explained to me as stick your arms straight out in front of you and count to 4 then take them back. Try and keep the rhythm going.

Is this correct or should it be a bit more refined?

Well thats very basically correct, keep your hands at the same height that they are when you have a contact and extend your arm forward, count 3 strides then retake the contact, I wouldnt recommend doing it for longer on a prelim horse, as the point of the movement is to show that your horse will maintain its outline!

good luck, I hate P14 its like a novice but without med trot!

Thanks that's helpful. We may not have an outline by that stage so there won't be anything to show! It does seem hard. It's only a comp for RS clients and liveries and we usually do Prelim 4 or 7. However under new management, so they have obviously decided to stretch us a bit.

Hang on a sec - I was riding P14 today (1994) at home and there is no give and retake in my test.....am I out of date? Eek!

Oh help - worried now. it's 2006 but from dressage diagrams as the shop had sold out of the official ones, and my printer wouldn't do the diagrams. i hope it's correct. Does anyone know?

I would guess you are right, Spider, as the date of the dressage diagrams test is 2006, but I can't see the test details as I have not purchased this one from them. Hopefully, someone more informed that me will inform you ASAP, but thanks for the warning, I have time to check before I ride the old one and look like a prune in 2 weeks time!

ah well, 4 & 7 do get dull after the 500th time anyway!

Hornsby the test was updated last year, the new test is completely different so I suggest you get a new copy toot sweet

2006 P 14 test movement 6 - circle right 20m diameter & after E give and retake the reins.
Hope this helps.
(ps my horse would do this ok - its just the cantering we have a few little problems with!)

well im at Aldham Mill (instructors yard) but its mine and hossies first Affiliated test as the last one got cancelled! ill go and check that name you gave me to see if its the same test as ive got at home

I did this yesterday - the comment sheet said I had failed to release - I assume that I must have put hands up in the air rather than along neck

Just to cheer you up, I did Novice 30 today, the judge was the *** from hell, she said that I did not give & retake, THERE WAS A PHOTO OF IT!! she also said I didn't halt for 4 seconds at A, the mare was square (another pic!) & my friend timed me. She then pulled me & my lovely pony to bits so badly that I cried when I read the sheet (no constructive criticism here then) that I expected the photos to be awful, in fact she is through & engaged, just a bit of a dodgy moment when she broke in the medium canter. Won't want to ride under this one again!!! I know it's subjective, but I thought we were meant to take the sheets away & learn from what the judge had written, rather than consider defecting to show jumping.
