I'm planning on overcoming my fear of riding in front of a judge to enter a little dressage competition next week. The test will be prelim 2, which is one I haven't done before.

The test has two moves which are FXC and KXC both in working trot. I'm presuming that for these I need to set off across the diagonal from F/K to X and then turn down the centre line to C, rather than just changing the rein through to H/M? That seems logical given the way it's written but I wanted to double check to make sure I don't do it wrong and end up looking silly!

Thanks.

You don't go down the centre line unless the test tells you to what's the instructions after that one it should give you an indication where you should be.

I can't remember the test off hand but you probably just stop trotting at c not turn at c

This bit of the test is all in trot and it says

FXC working trot
C track right

and then

KXC working trot
C track left

So no explicit direction of either going across the diagonal or down the centre line?

That's correct - it's basically a dog leg type movement. You can download the test from dressage diagrams - I find it much easier to learn that way and you can see where the movements go!

Thanks, I was being tight and so found a freebie to download (which I know is naughty so please don't tell me off!). It's probably easier to get the ones with the diagrams if we do a bit more in the future as I do tend to learn it from the patterns/shapes rather than what happens at specific letters.

Your description is correct. Start on the diagonal and at x turn towards c.
It’s easier to ride than describe!
If you download TestPro, you get a few free credits. Enough to see that test on a diagram (it has a cost after, so make sure you keep an eye on your credits).

deleted - wrong test!

Oh no, don't do that. That would confuse me even more 😂

Thanks, that's really helpful. The ultimate plan is to do a bit of eventing and obviously those are different tests, so the BD tests are just to get us out and give us the practice in the meantime. A few free credits while we do that would be great!

Hope this edit of the P2 test sheet makes sense ( want to post it all for fear of infringing copyright!)

Great, thank you. Definitely much easier when you can visualise it!
