I am about to do my first unaffiliated Prelim test (P18) with my young mare and as I have not done this level for quite some time (did mostly novice and elementary with my other mare before she was put in foal) I am a bit unsure as to the general standard of horses.

I was wondering whether people could post any photographs of their horses competing in unaffiliated and affiliated Preliminary tests, and let me know how they got on?

This is Grace, I just hope we do not make too much of a fool of ourselves as she is not consistent in her contact yet, she drops her right shoulder on both reins and is not swinging through her back much, but this is being worked on as we speak:

Thanks Molineux... I am hoping to affiliate her this summer, but just trying to get an idea of the sort of standard of Preliminary tests.

What sort of things do they look for in a Prelim test? (again, I know what is looked for in Novice and Elementary, but am lost when it comes to Prelim

prelim is pretty basic just looking for general way of going etc but won't expect to much if she is nor very consistant (though it's been a while since i've done prelim too) just looking at your photo you should do fine good luck
 
Thanks buddly... isn't it awful when you can't remember the bloody basics of Prelim. Looked at the test this morning and couldn't remember it for love nor money, but can still remember most of the Elementary ones off by heart even though I have not ridden them for over 7 months!
 
Ok, I have had a look through one of my tests I did with my MAD TB who hated any form of flat work!! so the comments are going to be slighty different from what you get LOL

She will do brilliantly and not look at all out of place, honestly.

At prelim level they want to see a nice active, balanced horse and moves fluently through upwards and downwards transitions in a consistant but soft outline. Head carriage dosent have to be 'high and in' it can be softer and a little lower that what is required at elementary/medium level.

Movements are basic, big circles (all 15/20m) in trot and canter, a free walk on a long rein (make sure shes stretching down nicely and marching forwards in this) and obviously a halt transition at the end.

You really have nothing to worry about!

Hmmm... thanks for that. It seems they are looking for acceptance of the contact, bending through the poll and the horse being in front of the leg... I think we might be struggling to get above the 50% mark!!!

So with the 52% I was quite pleased!

this isnt my horse, he's my mam's, Ebieappolo, doing prelim 7 dressarge, we got 58% but didnt get placed anywhere; although i think thats great for our first try:)

I have already entered but am now umming and ahhing whether it is a bit too soon... I did say our aim was to get her out somewhere in March, but she has been going quite well recently and going out to different places (for lessons) that I thought in a mad moment that we would give it a go.
 
She's only been rebacked for 4 months... and the majority of October was spent lunging her as she needed to build up some muscle and fitness before I got on.
 
Thanks for that... I just can't remember, so am quite ashamed of myself.

I am hoping for a decent but more than anything I am hoping she keeps her head and just relaxes in the atmosphere.
 
I'll go and have a look now... our dog's breeder has just emailed me to say do I know of anyone who wants a 5 months old Pointer pup who is not wanted by its owners anymore due to their health problems! Going to try and talk my hubby into it, but I don't think he'll have another pointer just yet!
 
the first test i did with my boy 6 years ago b4 i even got on he had a broncing fit got away from girl holding him took another horse with him and went broncing round the entire field!!!! still got placed but very embaressed sure you'll be better than that lol
