Hi all,

So basically my lad has gone back to basics and we are currently ensuring that he will not kill me when I get back on him....

Long story short rushed youngster with cruising blood... And believed them when they said broken and riding.

So we went back to basic handling and are the long reining stage so my idea was to try a preliminary test using long reins as he is behaving so far and I want to test the control.

Anyone know the most basic preliminary test and where I can find it?

Another advice please feel free to comment :) thanks

All the tests are on dressage diagrams, the most simple are usually the lowest numbers so prelim 1 would be a good start but you may be best starting with the intros as they have no cantering and are a bit more interesting to do.
Although really I would say they are all based on the basic school movements which you can plan yourself and incorporate whatever moves you want, you can be fairly ambitious when long reining, use poles to go over or round, create a maze or spiral to work with, I can long rein around my yard, through the hay barns when they are not too full which mean stepping up and down, use a variety of hazards to walk onto and rarely run out of ideas even if I stay within the school, using a set dressage test has never really occurred to me as even when preparing for a comp I hardly ever run through one from start to finish as the prelims are rather boring.

I'd go out and about on the long reins. Start with round the yard then go off the yard. Mine is also long reining in the school when other people are riding, only with their permission and based on him being rock steady, but still a very useful thing to do. If there is ever anything going on on the yard, tractors/lots of people parking/a big ride going out, then hes there doing his own thing while it goes on around him. I love it when its "own a pony day" and there are kids everywhere! Like I said, hes rock steady but hes also doing it in blinkers and harness so a new thing for him.
