Preloved...grr

Trouble is they have heard the horses market is depressed but do not realise a pony of this type would cost thousands what ever the market. The other one everyone wants for free or cheap is a safe quite hack, about 15 hands plus.

Can I have a defender 90 please, don't mind windows or solid in the back, pref green. I'll polish it every day, and it'll be with me til it drops apart.

Cheers!

PS...if you wouldn't mind paying for my tax disc every year, that'd be great!

Oh yes please!... However must have back seat and windows! Would prefer Burgandy but am willing to compromise!

And yes tax and insurance also please! :)

Can i have a huge stable yard please, with at least 100 stables, a huge horse lorry, 2 indoors schools, 2 outdoor school - one indoor must be wax surface and jumps would be nice too ;)

Oh and competition stallions must be included hehe

Personally I'd like a grade a (would consider grade b) must be a gelding, either grey or bay. Pref jumping 1.30+ must be careful, no vices and fit an ready to compete. Oh, and can you deliver because I can't afford fuel in my lorry. Thanks.

These always make me laugh. I swear I once saw one wanting a 16.2+ that could go on to BE and was backed, schooled nicely, hacked out alone or in company, done a bit already, 5-7 yrs old for £1500!

A friend of my sisters (13yrsold) put a wanted up for a 15hh Cob must be between 6-13 yrs, bombproof in all traffic, hack alone, jump, well schooled and come with full wadrobe for £110 ( her Christmas money) and was suprised she didn't get a reply and her mum made her take it down lol !

lol :D

If they are 'knowledgeable and experienced' they would know that ponies like this don't usually come up for free!

I've just had a little browse of preloved out of interest and horse prices have plummeted much lower than they were a little over a year ago when I bought my welsh! I'm definitely in negative equity with him :-)

It's very sad to see (I was looking at Arabs) how many horses, over 80% at a guess, are on there because their owners have over-horsed themselves. Quite a few late teens advertised at under £500... Hard to see it ending well for some of them.

Can I have a 3.5t horsebox please, oh and the same horse similar to their description to put in it, ta muchly :D

Oh, oh, I forgot, can you pay a years livery/vet bills/insurance and comp entries too, thanks!

ALL my horses and ponies were F2GH.. I have

A very nice 8YO eventer
A 13:2 7YO PC pony
A 12:2 22YO PC Pony
&
A 11hh 6YO Stunning show pony

So yes they are out there, and there are also people like myself who prefers to know the truth about an animal, which you are far more likely to get when they are F2GH

i agree tbh

im looking on and off (off more than on as sellers are deluded).....and prices are rediculously high for what is offered....!!

and when offer less you get a barage of wtf its worth far more etc - well go ahead...sell to someone else....!! i dont mind tbh!! :D

You see she is being a bit ambitious  i'm looking for something cheap or free too, BUT I'm looking for 16hh+ that is a fruitloop, needs rebacking from scratch and has issues to sort out. I want a longterm project, something that no one else wants :) so I don't think i'm being that ambitious personally :)

Thing is these ads do work. I know people who have put such ads out and received what they are after and believe it or not they were good homes. Some people can't sell, can't afford their livery and can't afford to keep any longer so cut their losses and give away.
I also know of a cracking pony free to good home again because they can't sell. Whoever ended up with him will get a cracking pony.

Rachelbristol I totally agree with you. My mare was free and she's done everything with me in 11 yrs now.nothing at all wrong with her, owner just wanted her gone, but if her ad was put on here you would get everybody saying " poor mare" " where will she end up" " better off pts" iv had her 11 years and she will stay with me forever. Good homes are out there and actually I was told by the owners I was doing her a big favour by taking her on. Iv got the money but why pay thousands for a horse when there's one local free to good home.

indeed thatsmygirl, But I have also seen people spend a lot of money on horse and ponies, some of which have been extremely bad buys.

one prime example: Parents purchase a 148cm JA SJ pony for their daughter, 2 weeks later the pony wont jump a thing!

After asking around the area where the pony came from, it transpired that the pony had gone stale a few months before, they had taken it out of work, left it, re started jumping which was fine, but it then went stale again a short time later, so they again stopped jumping it, but then advertised it as a SJ pony and sold it, knowing that when people came to look and test it, it would happily jump because it had been given time off. The pony cost them over 12k to buy... that's a lot of money for two weeks jumping in most peoples books!

My best horse was free. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time and accepting he may never come sound (he was lame at the time)
Good call, he's fab!

It would never have occurred to me to advertise for a freebie though!

They're basically looking for an older pony that's good in traffic that they will keep forever.
I don't actually think they're being unrealistic in their expectations in this climate for that kind of horse.

Also, I bought my horse on a tight budget and also have freebies. They don't want for anything and see the vet as soon as required etc.

I paid a rediculously small sum for a papered ISH 16.3hh 6 yr old broodmare as I was the right home. She's bred us 3 stunning foals (latest - a huge colt arrived this morning at 4.30), the oldest 2 have won competitions (including class at Trailblazers national final & won in hand supreme on only outing this year & requalified for this years national final). she is a stunning mare, with superb movement & temperament. I was just the right person in the right place at the right time. Like to think we have given her a superb home over the past 7 years.

To be fair to the advertiser she does say that age doesn't matter and it's only a light hacking home, so it may be suitable for an aged, semi-retired pony that the kids can fuss over and do some gentle riding. This kind of thing may well be free to good home as the market is bad enough at the moment with young, talented ponies going for stupidly low prices. It's a bit of a hopeful ad but you never know!

I was always taught ' if you don't ask you don't get' .

I found my new lad with a free to good home / long term loan ad.
He is a 12 year old gelding by gairlyn gemini, his problem? He is basically had if lucky a year maybe two of work due to lack of time.

His owner bred him and wanted him to go to a good home, that was more important than price to her. He is on loan for now with a view of her gifting him to me when ready.

Someone said why doesn't she loan, ? simple, kids get attached owner comes, doesn't like something or listens to malicious rumers ( which can and does happen), pony gets taken away.

Well I stand corrected :D its nice to hear good things from FTGH stories. I thought they were being unrealistic, but I suppose a 25 year old ex riding school pony would fit the bill. The way the ad is written IMO sounds like they want an awful lot for nothing and I always question why people want things for free (I'm just suspicious of everyone lol) maybe saying 'small budget' instead of free would give a better impression, but that's just my opinion.
