Preloved - why do I even look?

Brilliant, thank you. I think what I struggle to understand is our dogs are family. now they aren't as important as our children, but they are part of our life and their needs are taken into consideration when we plan what we do. I appreciate that some people do have a sad change of circumstances that means they need to rehome their dog but it just seems that preloved and so on make it so easy. Fed up with the dog? Chuck it on the internet as a freebie.

Working longer hours often seems to be trotted out as an excuse nowadays. Obviously I wouldn't agree with working long hours with a puppy, but an adult dog, as those are, should cope fine as long as someone lets it out during the day, and there are dog walkers in most areas now I think. It's probably more a case that the owners can't be bothered to walk their dog after a day at walk, yet what better way to wind down and relax.

It does happen, I have just fostered a Dobe that was handed into rescue because the owner who worked a 12hour shift in a childrens home which allowed him to take the dog to work was taken over by new people who said no dogs. He rang the rescue in tears as he couldnt bare the thought of his dog being alone for a lengthy time even with dog walkers so the rescue took him in and I fostered him. He went to his new family on Friday and fingers crossed its going well, the easiest Dobe Ive ever dealt with and he loved children too which is a bonus.

I just fail to understand why people can't make arrangements for work commitments, they must have mates, neighbours, family, surely?

I agree with you, the saddest are the 3 month old pups, usually in a flat, that need rehoming as they need to much exercise/time (often collies). I mean, do people really just see a puppy and impulse pick it up? I guess they must.
My old dog had to be left a lot and I worked horrendous hours but she was OK, she had a bed in the garage and a garden to potter in and we both enjoyed a walk before I went to work and again when I went home, like you say it is good unwind time.
Dogs now are like used cars, or even just a vase of something - pretty - like it - want it - bought it - oh no don't need it anymore...

But at least they contacted the breed rescue, and showed they cared about what happened to him. Those two rotties are more than likely going to end up as security on a scrap site or being ripped to pieces by fighting dogs. No care at all.

I also found myself looking on preloved a couple of weeks ago and I was really shocked by the people selling adult dogs, I mean I know people find themselves in a position that the dog needs to be rehomed sometimes and i'm not saying that they should be advertised free to good home either but there were dogs advertised for a lot of money with a sob story why. Surely there are better ways if you really have the dogs best interest at heart, like rehoming through a vets, I know it might take longer but at work we have a book where we take details of people looking for a pet and people looking to rehome their pet, or breed rescues, again you might have to wait but still.

Those Rottweilers are just beautiful. I really hope they, and the Doberman, find good homes. It's so risky advertising for free/next to nothing. Asking for trouble IMO
