What are premier rugs like for sizing?

I'm looking at their turnout - 40 gram, she usually takes a 5'9" in a Fal or Weatherbeeta and is the Premier 40 gram similar to the Fal 40 gram Bulldog (not the newer one which is a beige colour as that is more like a medium weight turnout):D

Don't know about the 40g rug, sorry,as haven't got one but I and 2 others on yard found that the heavyweight rugs came up a size big ie. the usually 7ft bought a 6'9" which was fine,I got a 6'6" but should've got a 6'3" etc.

I've got the PE 40g and it is a nice rug, really useful in the weather we have had this spring/summer much better than a no fill as it is more waterproof and has a bit of warmth but not thick enough to overheat the horse if the weather brightens up. Lovely and breathable and my mare hasn't got wet under it once despite the heavy rain we've had.

They are fairly generous size wise and quite deep, but not as generous as the winter buster pattern with the shoulder gussetts.

Funnily enough I've always found the opposite. My 6'9" horse needs a 7" in PE (although this is for the heavyweight rug). I often find that I can go down a size on the lightweight rugs whatever the make.

Mine are pretty much all PE now - I have the 40g, 200g, 300g, 450g and fly rug and all are a 5ft 9 which is her usual size. She is a chunky monkey though so fit her very well. For a finer build you could possibly go a size smaller.

I have some PE 40g, and some FAL 40g. I love the PE for spring and summer, but the FAL 40g is much much thicker, in fact my unclipped breeding mares have often done much of a normal winter in a FAL40g, they couldn't in the PE.

My OH had trouble understanding why they needed 2 x 40g rugs, when as he reasoned, 40g is 40g - yes? Not in the case of horse rugs it isn't!

Me too, exactly (although it's the 40g I mean - and in comparison to a 6'9" Fal Bulldog which always fit him fine). And since the 6'9" PE is a bit on the tight side, horse's mare friend (who usually wears a 6'6" rug) is currently wearing his 6'9" 40g PE (it does look a bit like a maxi dress on her, but the length is not far off).

I've fallen out of love with the PEs, tbh. They used to be very good value, good quality and good fit, but now I'm finding the Shires are taking that role.

Echo this although couldn't find a shires 40g so had the PE last week. Even on my chunky monkey had to go a size smaller
