Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone had used these:

http://www.premierequine.co.uk/cgi-...co.uk/&WD=packs hct&PN=HCT-Gel-Packs-186.html

and how you have found them if you have?

I wanted to have something in the first aid kit to use for any injuries. I have just been using the aerbourne cool care gaiter boot but didn't find it any good. In the description it said that it would stay cold for 20 minutes but the only part that did was the bottom half. As soon as it went on my horses leg the gel just dropped to the bottom of the boot so it was useless to cool the top half. Aerbourne are looking into this as I have sent the boot back so don't know if this is a common problem.

Anyway I just wanted to see if anyone had used the premier equine ones? I've emailed them and they said there is a lot of gel in each section so it can't drop to the bottom but still worth checking peoples experiences before buying! Premier equine have said the pack should stay frozen for 15 minutes but depending on the heat of the leg will melt to some degree. So I'm wondering how long people find they do stay cold for once put on the horses leg?

I have been reading various posts and am unsure now whether these type of gel packs should be left on for 10, 15 or 20 minutes - there seem to be differing opinions so any more opinions on that would be great aswell. They won't be used for after work (as my horse is retired!), just for any injuries she may get.

Thank for any help!

Lucy

The best thing I've found for cooling legs is those cheap ice cube bags. Fill them and freeze them, then use a double layer of tubigrip to hold them on the leg. Depends if you have a freezer on the yard though.

Gel always moves away from pressure IME.
