Am I the only one who thinks they are WOW! No don't get me wrong I love their rugs and have brought several in the past but just looked today and £165 for a HW turnout. Last 2 I brought from them all be it a few years back were £100ish.

Maybe I'm just out of touch with the cost of things lately but it killed my spending spree dead :(

Rug prices are high they make me pull this face :eek3: when I look at the full price.

I got a Duo with an extra 100g liner when they first came out and it was really, really expensive at £180. Now the Duo is £290 and the liner is £40, so £330 in total! That's more than just inflation surely?

I'm glad it's not just me. I was maybe expecting £130 and then to wait for a discount day but at £165 I'm going to start looking around. It's such a shame because they have just lost the business for 2 rugs there and a couple of saddlecloths. 3beasties that's 3 rugs lost from you...I wonder how many more of us will be shopping elsewhere?

Yep. This is exactly why I've started buying shires (the better ones). And honestly I think they are now better than PE. The one thing with PE rugs is I've always found them heavy when wet, almost like their waterproof part was inside the shell. Therefore the outside soaked up the rain

Anyway much happier with the shires

PE stuff you always want to buy end of season as it always changes a bit for the next year.

I like Rhino rugs... they've always come off ebay though as plenty of barely worn ones appear.

The Trio rugs are never on offer as they're already discounted (if you buy whole set) and you can use the facebook discount code too! :)

Very expensive though I agree, am currently saving up for the set!

I have a trio from 2 years ago and I love it. It cost me £129.00 with all the liners and neck covers too. I didnt realise at the time how much of a bargin it was ( my first horse, never bought rugs before) wish I had got two now as I would love another one.

I love PE rugs and recently brought a few in their sales/discounts - having just seen I need a new lightweight/no fill for my boy and looking on their website and finding the cheapest lightweight is just over a £100, I think that is way to expensive for a rug with no filling especially, but would be prepared to pay that for a decent med/heavy weight.

I love most PE and I use their boots/saddlecloths etc but they're rugs are too pricey :(

They make me go "bloody hell, I'm not buying that!".

I am looking at HW turnouts atm, I can get a decent brand rug for half the price of a PE.

For me, their prices are utterly ridiculous. Someone at the yard was telling me they have the PE 450g turnouts for mega winter. I looked at the prices and swiftly concluded I wouldn't be buying from them. Why buy one rug when I could buy two still-decent ones?

I have gone with the 200 turnout this year mainly due to the high denier as cheaper rugs are only lasting one season (if that) with my destroyer. I got the 20% discount, so at £126 I was pretty pleased. I will buy a liner to turn it into a heavyweight at some point (his heavyweight from last year is nearly still in one piece). I couldn't justify paying nearly £300 for the trio though.

What is the going rate for good quality 2nd hand rugs and where is the best place to sell? Ive got a FAL 400g (good old style made in the north east) but no idea what people will pay for a rug like this as most that i see come up for sale are cheapy £20 rugs.

I love the rugs but I also admit they have gone up quite a bit.

I have always managed to get them in the sales though. I got my trio for £105 (albeit three years ago), a 300g t/o for £54 and a fleece for £9.99

They are lasting well though

weebarney I've tended to pay about £40 for the rhinos. - though they were LW their middleweights were new- probably worth looking on ebay at completed listings.

hnmisty I don't know about the PE heavy weights but rambo/rhino rugs are similar price wise and have been worth their weight in gold to us (having previously had masta, loveson, weatherbeeta). We no longer need to buy 2 rugs for the same money because however wet they get 1) horse is still dry 2) rug dries overnight either hung in lean to or draped over hay bales in the barn and they are still the same 4 years on. I wish we had invested in pricier rugs when we first got the horses.

I love PE rugs and both my horses have the trio but I looked at the new catalogue as my mares one has been destroyed by another horse and I couldn't believe how much the prices have gone up!! I really want to get her another one but I just can't justify the cost.

So if anyone can recommend a decent rug for a horse with loooong legs that's not gonna break the bank then please let me know

I've been replacing mine as they rip/get old ... used to replace PE like for like as I love the, but now I'm replacing with the best of the Shires ranges as can't justify PE any more!

If you're looking for an alternative I can recommend swish rugs, though their prices are also going up. I think the more a 'brand' becomes popular, they more their prices go up!

I was after PE this winter for my boy, but again cost is meaning I'm going else where ie swish. However I am going to order one of PE's fleece rugs with the white collar as I don't think that is too bad for the price and is its going to be a birthday present to my self :D

I've just splashed out on the buster trio for my boy- it looked fab on him and several people at my yard commented on how nice it looked on him. He's been wearing it since last Monday and when I went up to get him in this evening it has ripped already- very dissapointed :-(

Glad I went out and bought a selection in the sale, they are lovely rugs but they really have gone up in price haven't they?! She'd better not destroy them as she won't be getting any more! x

I think Im one of the few who dont rate PE rugs, thought the fit was awful on the LW tournout although the fly rug, same buster design fit him well and has lasted years. I wouldnt pay those prices, Id go for a Rambo anyday. The Shires rugs, even the cheaper Tempest range are fabulous though and cheap! Ive just bought a Swish rug in the sale for £50, was really impressed and someone on the yard went online to buy the same rug and it had gone up £12 in 2 days, thought it was in the sale?? She decided to buy an Amigo instead.
