Premier Equine rug sizing?

So I'm looking at getting my pony a Premier Equine Buster Trio rug, but I am unsure of which size would be most suitable. I like the idea of rugs with liners and this seems to be the beast value for money. I also have used premier equine rugs on other horses and like them. However, I am finding conflicting evidence over sizing. Some say they are big, others say true to size. I was just looking for some real people with real experiences of these rugs.

For reference, my pony is between a 5'3 and 5'6 in most rugs. Currently her best fitting rugs are:

5'3 Weatherbeeta original medium. Also has a 5'6 weatherbeeta freestyle which is OK but a little big around the shoulders and the neck was massive
5'6 Amigo hero 6 lite - 5'3 doesn't go anywhere near her.

So which size Premier Equine would you suggest - 5'3 or 5'6?

I personally would suggest the 5'3. Our boy was a 6'3 in a Weatherbeeta and have found that PE are a similar size and shape, if not slightly larger.

Can't beat a PE rug in my opinion :)
 
My horse is 6'9 and I bought him a 6'9 pe which is useable but really a bit too big. Next time I went 6'6 which is perfect. Same situation with daughters ponies so I'd say go 5'3!
 
I'd say the pony sizes are a bit big (horse sizes maybe truer to size) so go with the smaller option 5'3..

We bought our LR pony a 5ft rug (as he had had an amigo 5ft) and PE 5ft absolutely drowned him, we had to re order 4'6

I've just bought a 5'6 PE, I tried it on both of mine and it fitted both. One usually wears a 6' Weatherbeeta, the other wears a 5'9 Shires. I would say they come up pretty large.
 
I'd say depending on your horse's size they're either a tad roomy or true to size. If he's a 5'6 in an Amigo then I'd go for the size down from that as Amigo are notorious for coming up a tad small.

My horse is normally a 6 foot but I can squeeze him into a 5'9 PE (If I were to buy him one I would go for the size up probably but the rug in question belonged to my old horse). For the same size Amigo rug I need a chest expander (this rug also belonged to the previous horse... cheapskate, yep that's me!)
 
My pony was measured at between 5'3" and 5'6" I ended up buying the 5'6" buster Trio, and it fits a treat. It is roomy with just the 100g outer, but it leaves plenty of room to add the liners if needed.

Mine is going into it's 3rd winter, and still looks like new - no tears or even catches in the outer. It does get a bit heavy when wet, but has ever leaked, and pony has always been as snug as a bug, despite being fully clipped and -20C weather last year!
 
I love PE rugs. They are generous, so you may need to go down a size. They are generous around the chest and they are deep and come round under the belly so the belly doesn't show under the bottom edge of the rug which is a pet hate of mine!. The tail flap is also a lot longer than most manufacturers and has a loop for the tail to stop it blowing up. This helps keep the wind off their back side. I have had no issues with leaks when it has been wet and they stay in place even with a serial roller like one of mine.
They are very durable even with horses that like to crash through the brambles and they wash really well.

Agree with Boulty. My lad measures up exactly 5'6" - the Amigo rugs are ridiculously too small, but his PE rug is perfect (if not a tad too big, but I prefer rugs that give a tiny bit more room).

Personally I'm a big fan of PE rugs.
 
I have some pony PE rugs and found the length and depth generous but neck quite narrow (I have stallion natives so big necks and shoulders), I go with their normal size.

I'm not a fan though, so heavy when wet and not particularly water proof. I use mine in doors or as last resort spares.

Horseware, amigo or shires are the brands I go for
 
I have a native/cob cross and he's 14.1hh and in Weatherbeeta rugs has always been a 5'6", whether turnout, stable rug or fleece. I think it can depend on fit and how your horse is built so to speak as to what brands fit them. Mine's quite big bottomed. Bought him a Premier Equine fleece in the sale and tried it on today for the first time and way too snug, at front (barely closes) and belly straps are at their limit but he has some weight to lose still as we go into winter. I may pause for a few weeks but think as front is straining it'll be off to eBay I think and I'll have to get a 5'9". Whether that applies to their turnout rugs I don't know.
