Premier Equine Rugs – Any Good ?

I've brought a few and have been happy with them but they've just put the prices up and you can buy an Amigo for the same now so I've stopped buying the Premier Equine..

Quality is fine, equal par to weatherbetta, Masta and Amigo
 
Lots of folk used them on my last yard - they were fab! Even the rug trashers never managed to do much damage to them. Lovely and cozy rugs. The next rug(s) I buy will be PE for sure.
 
I'm looking at buying one at the moment, having heard them recommended. The lady that cleaned my rugs this year said that they are one of the best brands in her opinion. The only other make she rated was Fal and she mentioned that they have recently been taken over and she was unsure whether they would continue to be such good quality.

I'd been thinking about a PE anyway following recommendations but she seemed to rate them above just about anything else in terms of how well made they are and the quality of the fabrics.

She wasn't very complimentary about the workmanship on my Masta rug that she had in for mending.... and she said to avoid Amigo too, can't remember why but she was basing her opinions on the rugs she gets in for cleaning and repairing.
 
Cant recommend them enough, I have a full set of stable and turnout (both buster combo's) plus one of their super heavyweights (my girl is a fragile flower!!). They still look like new after the first winter in them (normally have to throw rugs out after 6 months!) and they fit really well and don't rub.

Add to that the customer service is fab, i put an order through, had a call within 15 mins to apologise they didnt have my size and to tell me there might be a delay only i missed the call and when i returned the call they had managed to source one and i had all rugs within 2 days Plus a free bag which is really handy for keeping bandages etc in!! Go for it!!!
 
i used to swear by them - but i dont find them particularly waterproof tbh....
i still buy them as i like the depth - but always use a LW no fill amigo over the top for extra waterproofness - they always seem to leak on my horse at the seams that run front to back about a 1/3 of way up from the bottom of them- the inside of the rug is soaked from that seam down - and also up on the inside
the amigo covers that seam - and she's fine then
 
They are lovely rugs, although they are pricey they are worth every penny & alot of horses on our yard wear them. I would certainly buy them again :D
 
I won one a few months back and have put it on for the first time tonight. Fits nicely, although I didn't think it was overly generous on the shoulder (and it was a 7'3"!!!). Nice and deep, with a good neck cover. I'll let you know how much it moved over night in the morning!!!
 
They are great rugs - I have some for my two - one is a cob and one is a warmblood so they both have big chests and shoulders and the Premier Equines are nice and roomy.

I also have a rug cleaning business and they all clean really well - all my customers that have them swear by them - their fly rugs are great as well:)
 
Absolutely love mine. I think they're far superior in quality to the amigos you mentioned (and all my previous rugs were amigos). I'm slowly replacing them with pe ones.
 
Sorry to buck the like trend here but Im not a great fan of them. They are heavy when wet and the velcro on the one that belongs to a mare I look after is not as sticky as it ought to be - its only a couple of years old. The velcro on my own horse's Rambo Duo which is 5yrs old now is far better.

I much prefer the Rambo's, Amigos and Weatherbeetas. Masta unfortunately are not so good these days. I too have a rug cleaning business and come across a lot of rugs. Shires rugs are pretty good just to throw another brand into the equation.
 
also not a fan im afraid the clips are rubbish! also they dont self right so end up hanging over one side after rolling!
 
I'm a big fan. My TB who lives out all year round has the 450g one for the coldest weather, a 200g one and a 0g one. Next on the list is a 300g one!

I used to be a big weatherbeeta fan but the PE are much better quality IMO. I haven't experienced any problems with leaking or the rugs not self righting either.
 
I do like mine (only got the heavyweight full neck) but it is heavy when wet, but I guess thats only a problem for me heaving it on and off, and not the horse really (as weight is spread over him). It definitely saw me well through last winter. Nice and deep too :)

I am a rambo fan, but these are good for the slimmer wallet! :)
 
I dont have one but a few people at the yard I am at has them. They all love them. I'm not sure as I find them very heavy when they are wet and they always seem to slip slightly. The newest PE rug on the yard has been on the horse for a month or so and has just came in from the field the other day with a surcingle ripped off.
 
What I've seen of them they seem good.

However :eek: :eek: :eek: at the price of that!! It's about £100 more than it was just 3 years ago! Wasn't aware they'd been taken over but if that's what happened to the price, not great news. It's probably still better value than the rambo duo as you get much more for similar money, but still that's a heck of an increase!
 
Have friends that use them and they seem really nice but the fit doesn't work for us at all.
I have a tb with very big shoulders and chest but he's not broad across the back.
Trying on a friends it was so deep it was at his knees and hocks, I'd be worried about him catching himself when getting up from rolling. However great for horses that other brands look like a mini skirt on.

Also hers seems to come in with as many rips as everyone else.

For sizing and quality I like FAL and some models of Weatherbeeta (Takas are good but don't like the Landas).
 
I always get mine in the sale, the sale starts on boxing day, but if you wait until the end of January they have a further reduction, and you can get them for about nearly half the price!

they are brilliant rug, I have only heard that Trio's seem to leak, but I have always bought Winter Busters, and they don't leak, they are heavy when wet, but what rug isn't? and they don't rub, ever! I've never had a PE rug that slipped and wouldn't self right either, but maybe thats because my boys always do that little shake thing just after rolling and you can watch the rugs shift back into position, clever horses!
 
Have brought several, and always before would have raved about them. However, I've found if they make it through a second winter, you're lucky. I brought my mare the trio thing (outer and different thickness liners). The outer has actually stretched so much that it now looks like an absolute dress on her. The Velcro on the front is pretty rubbish, and usually within a couple of months of use stops sticking. The stitching quality is not great - the rugs I had all had stitching coming undone in random places. They are very heavy when wet.

I've gone back to amigo rugs for my girl, and ventured out onto a mark Todd ruff as well. The mark Todd rug I am Very pleased with so far. Nice fit, easy to lift when it's wet, and it was less money than the PE. Time will tell whether it will last a good time or not, but I would say there's plenty of better rugs out there than the PE rugs
