As title suggests - are they worth it? I've never spent more than £100 on a rug so am cautious about investing so much in a rug.

Already have a decent heavyweight (450g) so would be looking at buying a PE rug in 200g and a 100g PE liner to layer it.

They're ok but I was a bit disappointed with the waterproofnes and I wouln't bother if you suffer from a bad back as they are so heavy when wet. I've got one one with the liners and I wouldn't rush to get them again.

And there fly rugs are a waste of space!

worst rug ever. I threw mine away. It took 2 of us to lift it when wet. Must have been so heavy for the poor beastie.

If the budget is £100 try an amigo there are some good prices on E bay. I changed my PE for a rambo wug. Best rug ever and I got £100 off with a bit of trawling on e bay so it was a bargain.

I bought 2 fly rugs recently and my horses could hardly walk in them they were so tight on the shoulders. I emailed them to say how disappointed I was considering how expensive they were................. I'm still awaiting a response more than 2 months later. Not impressed tbh!

Love our heavy weight and medium weight PE rugs, but always buy the ballistic nylon ones.

Just got a no fill polyester one for the pony so will see how that goes, snd I note that their neck holes aren't as generous in the small sizes.

Not a fan of them.

I'd tend to buy horseware Ireland or swish - HI are expensive but good quality & last ages! Swish are good rugs too but I only have the 50g & 200g ones. I won't buy anymore tbh as I refuse to pay £15 postage to NI!!

I prefer Rambo and Bucas but do use PE on two of my horses as they fit them better. Apart from getting very heavy when wet I am pleased with them.

I love them but even my 4ft3 is reasonably heavy, doesn't put me off though, I have the set with the liners and the outer is waterproof and the liners wash well

I have never paid full price for one, they have frequent offers and everything comes round eventually if you are patient enough!

I also find them too heavy when wet so use the Rambo/Rhino layering system instead. There are quite often some good bargains on ebay.

I love love love PE for my boy! I have a 70g which i use all year with liners. Also have the summer sheet which is fab for travelling as well as the stable. And more but dont tell the hubby 😂😂

All my turnout rugs are Premier Equine and I have to say I'm really pleased with them. I have a variety of weights and colours (!) and I also use the liners. I have never found them to leak and my horse always comes in warm and dry. I don't find the rugs too heavy and I manage to get them on my 16.3 without any problems-I'm about 5'6" and he takes a 6'6" rug. They are expensive, but as someone else said I never buy them full price as you can always find a special offer on the one you want if you wait long enough!

I've used a variety of brands over the years including Bucas, Masta, Horseware, JHL etc. and had some that don't fit and some that leak or rip when you don't expect them too, so I think it's just a case of horses for courses (if you'll excuse the pun) and what suits you and your horse.

Thanks folks. Love the idea of a liner system so looking at Horseware rugs now. Have found the Amigo Bravo 12 Plus Mediumweight which is within my budget and compatible with the HW liner system. Tough outer at 1200D too. Any reviews/comments?

Rambo out of my budget :(

They used to be, and I was a massive fan of them. However, I have to say over the last year or two they`ve changed, and I don`t rate them at all now. My first PE rug bought 7 years ago is still water proof and still going strong, I used to recommend them, but the newer stuff falls apart quickly, and isn`t much cop imho.

Not worth the money imo. As others have said, very heavy when wet and did not fit well on my average build horse!
I now use Ruggles and Derby House, and Weatherbeeta if they're on sale/secondhand!

I have a couple of the 1200d Amigo's and I like them. They have lasted well and are still waterproof (I think one is 5 years old now).

I really like my PEs. I have a few and the lightweight in particular is really sturdy - it's the only lightweight that's lasted more than 6 months with my rug wrecker. I also like the length of them - one of mine has a really round deep rib cage and they're the only ones that don't look like a mini skirt on him.

I am amazed by all the negative comments. Mine have been brilliant. I bought a new Buster zero the other day and think its fab. Horse is dry even in torrential rain.

It isn't that they leak (For me, anyway), it's the fact that they retain water like a dish sponge and makes them soo heavy.

I had one that leaked after 2 weeks, they did replace it but I am slightly put off now. I agree too they are very very heavy when wet. However, when there is snow on the ground or a gale even the wimpiest horse comes in snug and warm with the HW PE rug on. Providing it does not rain they are ok!

I'm in Ireland. When isn't it raining :(

Think I will go for the Amigo Bravo detachable neck 1200D rug as it's compatible with the HW Liner system and is much cheaper!
