Do PE rugs tend to be true to size, or come on the big/small size?

I'm looking at the 75g filling turnout as something for between a no fill and a 220g. Horse is usually a 6ft9 or 7ft (6ft9 in Fal-Pro, 7ft in Horseware) - whenever I've seen PE rugs on other horses, they always seem to be enormous and very deep so I'm wondering if I'm better going for the 6ft9. He is a 17hh IDxTB, fairly well built.

Cheers :)

Sorry no idea on sizes, but they still have their facebook voucher code offer of 25% off, running until 14th august. Enter code FB611 (make sure you use capitals for the letters)

They come up big I would say, my 16.3hh shire x takes 7'3" in their rugs and they are the only make that I would say fit him properley. Fantastic service too xx

I had a lightweight rug from them and wasn't overly impressed. It seems big but I normally have horsewear rugs. It leaked over night when it rained and the front velcro kept coming un done; I ended up selling it to a friend!! She has had no problems and it fitted her horse better. Another person the yard has all PE rugs and loved them so maybe just me!!

Good to know, there are very few true lightweight rugs that don't seem to leak or have condensation form, best I've found so far is the JHL lightweight, those with a filling seem to be better waterproofed for some reason.

Mark Todd would be a definite recommendation for a l/w turn out They never leak and my horses often wore theirs with under rugs over the heaviest rain in winter with no leaks!

I also have premier equine rugs including the 70g and i am pleased enough with it- It fits our youngster well he needs roomier rugs. It has got quite damaged though, unlike his other rugs which could of course be coincidence or the fact its the rug he wore most or it could be they tear easier!
I'd buy again. I bought his normal size and it fits him perfectly- but with some rugs i need a size up as he is a chunkier sort

I had a 6.6 winter buster which I bought for my mare last yr, she is a IDxCob.

Lovely rug, nice depth, only downside I found was that came up & little short on the length, her bum would hang out of it at the back whenever she had her head down grazing :( Ended up selling it on in the end, am waiting for the sales to start to buy a larger replacement.

I would say it depends on. the build of your horse, I will be purchasing a 6.9 next time :)

I'd probably go for either the actual size, or a size up for a turnout rug. The fly rugs etc are quite large because they seem to be cut on the same pattern for the outside of a turnout rug, if you understand me.
S :D

I like them - I didn't at first as they seem to fit very deep and further up the neck than any other rugs I have tried. But I have a Buster lite - it's the only lightweight I've ever had which hasn't leaked - same can't be said for my Rambo one!

I think they are pretty true to size, I've got the fly rug and heavy weight turnout. Did have a few problems with the turnout rug and PE sorted this out quickly and were a joy to deal with. Their customer service is excellent, give them a call and I'm sure they can advise you on what size will suit your horse.

I dont like their rugs - find they dont fit well and are a bit cheap. Saying that, I bought a full neck rain show sheet off them years ago and its been brilliant! Never leaked (even after using it in horrendous rain all day today at a show) and it fits really well.

They are very deep. They fit nicely lengthwise but the Buster 70X rug was down to my not-dainty mare's knees. I expect they would be good for really chunky horses if you want to add all the underrugs for winter.

The fly rugs are excellent. Again quite deep (not knee deep though) and they fit really well without pulling.

I love my PE rugs. Got 3 in different weights. They do come up big so I would go for size smaller. I ordered all 3 at same time so if had known so generous would have ordered the rest in smaller size. Couldn't be bothered to return them for smaller size!

Thanks everyone, and especially for the FB promo code :D

I'm looking at the 70g (or is it 75g?) as an in-between rug. I do like JHL/ Mark Todd rugs though - do they make an in-between weight, around 70-100g? I bought a 6ft9 last year in JHL but could really have done with a 7ft...

Lightest weight mark todd is the autumner which is 150grm am afraid, for inbetween weights I've been very happy with my fal chieftain 40grm, it's not too heavy if the weather is surprisingly warm but still keeps them nice and warm if the temperature drops. But with the FB code the PE rugs at a guess will be a little more cost effective, the chieftain is also 1200D I believe so pretty tough!

I had a feeling MT/JHL only did no fill and then heavier rugs, which is a shame as the shape of them is perfect for my horse (if only I'd bought a size bigger LOL).

I'll go for the PE one as I do like them when I've seen them "in person", IFKWIM.

I have a Premier Equine rug and has found it has come up considerably bigger than the same size in Amigo. Having said that, the Premier Equine rug is very nice and would certainly buy another

PE rugs have been well and truly put through the mill by our grass liveries. Whilst none of them have been skinnie minnies I have been really impressed as to who well these rugs have stood up to a full winter out.

I had a winter rug, would NEVEr buy one again, cheap and nasty.

I love my PE rugs, have a whole set of them, stable buster trio, turnout trio and a super heavyweight stable rug.

My girl is 6'9 -7 ft. I bought her 6'9 last year and length ways it was fine and nice and deep - the only thing i found was that she has quite a big bottom and it was a bit tight and in the end ripped a bit, she is a big girl tho!

So this year went for the 7ft and they fit like a dream

In fact i love them so much i am bizarrely looking forward to winter and using them again!!

And their customer service and delivery is second to none as well!!
