Having had our best day every yesterday I have unexpectedly qualified for the Premier Riding Club Championships on 12th July for the Ridden Showhunter Exc 153cm.

Now I've never been to anything like this and am wondering if I will be totally out of my depth having only done local shows before.

Has anyone been? Whta is it like? Is it an outdoor competition with a grass show ring? Will the judge ride my big hunter? What do they expect for the individual show part of the class?

So many questions sorry just can decide if I should go or not, and that all depends on whether I can get time off work to go anyway.

Thanks for any advice

I have done this very class and you wont be out of your depth because everyone else would have been doing riding club to qualify.

They didn’t ride my hunter when i did it and it was exactly the same as a normal show only with more horses in the class. They pulled out the top 10 in any order and they went back for the evening performance (I didn’t get through so don’t know what happen then). You need to ask if they will be riding and if they will be doing a in hand trot up too. If they are then you will need a well dressed groom to help un tack etc. If your horse is very big and you are tall make sure your stirrups go short enough for a small rider.

It is normally on the outdoor arena at bold (which is huge) they also have 2 indoors so plenty of room. I did the class 2 years ago and it was at Myerscough so not sure exactly where they hold that particular class.

But you should go just for the experience then if you qualify again next year you will know what it is all about.

Thanks thats really helpful, I had no idea there was an evening performance for those who get through!! i probably wont fall into that category with my young mare but I didnt think I'd qualify so who knows.

Like the idea of an arena surface she will go better on that, she is unshod and can slip on grass, esp when its dewy in a morning and its the 8am class so it prob will be a bit wet.

I'll get in touch with them and ask about the riding part and in hand too, Thanks very much!!

Looking at that website they haven’t listed a ride judge or a conformation judge so you should be ok and the class should run the same as you are use too.

Good luck!!!
