What is wrong with me???!!!! As soon as it turns to June, every year I get thic panicy fealing about making sure I am ready for winter. This week I have cleared the stables and feed room, Ordered some wood for stable repairs, booked my brother in to come and paint stables and sorted the barn. Last week I purchased a snuggy hood, some thermal socks and I am now desperetly seeking flanalette sheets!!!

Does anyone else do this or is it just crazy me?!

If there are other early winter planners what do you do to get ready?!!!

Off to buy some oil now....

Lol I know imagine living with my brain.... I hate W I think thats why I have to prepare myself so well in advance!!!

Let's not talk about the stinky C word at all!!!!

NOOOOoooooooooooo! I want to enjoy what's left of summer first! I start to think about winter in about October/November, it comes around fast enough without encouraging it!

Not quite as bad as you OP, tho back at the end of April I ordered all the bedding in (was a good price), did the spring cleaning (that is NOT winter prep, but cleaning AFTER the winter ;) ) Sorted all rugs out & all MW's are waiting to go off for cleaning next week & re-proofing.

Otherwise, the only re-stocking needed is hay but as thats not yet cut, I'll be waiting a while :)

Plans for topping up scalpings in 2 gateways by end of Aug, but otherwise am going to enjoy the SUMMER now :p

I do the same. I make the most of the extra time I have in summer to clean, sort and order stuff ready for autumn. Life is always so busy, that being prepared prevents last minute chaos.

Sadly, I'm not so organised about Christmas. That really is done at the 11th hour.

I don't like to think about it too much with it only being June, that said however, at Cheshire Show yesterday I bought a new bargain (£6!!!) treat ball thinking it would be good for the winter days when he's stuck in, plus I've ordered two bags of feed for autumn (that was also a special price at the show) and spotted a new medium weight turn out for next payday.

So although I like to think I'm not thinking about preparing for winter, I actually am!

Oh I am the same, I have repaired the shelter, had the hubby dig out the area around the shelter and replace with wood chip so if its a bad as last year there is somewhere dry to stand without being in mud, haylage is on the floor at the moment - baled by the weekend... reseeded the muddy areas - looking for a rug or two for the old bag

Not preparing for winter, but itching to get the boy out in the field for more than a couple of hours at a time so that I can gut that stable, clean underneath the mats, etc. I am also about to send my winter rugs off for cleaning and repair (finally).

P

I'm not, but both the Anticob and one of the old gits are chucking their summer coats out in handfuls. Depressing or what?

The only major thing i tend to do is send all the rugs off for repairing/re-proofing/cleaning ready for the colder months.

I do work his bed down to a Summer bed (which has already been done) as he's now out of an evening, but in during the day for a few hours.

The yard i'm on will hopefully be making plans to hardcore the winter field gateway as it became a bit of a nightmare last Winter. That and the gate needs re-hanging, so fingers crossed it will be done...

Hay wise, i'm sorted as OH makes it and saves me large bales from last year's cut, which i will use some 18 months on as i always want older bales rather than the newly cut bales (EMS boy in the stable so this hay works better for us).

Being resourceful this year and have started stockpiling shavings & feed ready for when they come back in! Any other money that is normally taken up with them being in I have put to one side and in a savings account.
Rugs have just come back having been reproofed.

It's scary being this organised!

My preparation for winter is: buy feed. That's it. The pony will now be living out so no need for bedding etc!

longest day this weekend, then it all starts to get a bit darker every day!! I'm not sure I can actually deal with this :(

I am with you - sad I know!

I have cleared all the stables ready for fresh beds...

I have started to buy hay in....

I have had the stable windows repaired...

I have bought some new rugs in the sales.....

i have just placed a pellet order for the 'wet' boy which is due next week...

I have already put up electric fencing for the winter paddocks...

I have straw and haylage left over from last year, which should also see me through this winter too...

The only thing left to do is clear the yard gutters, then bring it on!

Ps disclaimer: this makes me sound like a real saddo, but actually do have a busy 'normal' life, with a job/family etc - I am just anally organised when it comes to the horses. The family/house/garden is another story however!!!!
