Looking for prescription glasses for riding/competing as Ive always used my regular glasses which probably isnt a good idea (not flexible, glass etc.). What does everyone use please? I want something minimal looking as I hate wearing glasses in general and think they look weird with a riding hat. I like the look of the Bolle Bolt glasses but am confused by the prescription lenses and which ones fit which types. Would also like a pair if at all possible that I could easily change out the lenses for prescription sunglasses option too but not essential.

What can everyone recommend please? Thanks in advance!

I just ride in my usual glasses when I'm not wearing contact lenses, I didnt know you could get riding specialist glasses.

I'll follow this thread with interest :)

I dont think they're specialist riding ones as such, but you definately get sport ones which have rubbery type frames and different lenses so if you get smashed in the face it shouldnt hurt as badly!

Wish I could wear contact lenses but I just didnt get on with them at all and had to give up!

I’d be amazed if your standard prescription lenses are glass - glass is much heavier than the far more common plastics that are standard now.

I understand investigating the options available now, but I used to event and do hunter trials.

I’ve mangled a few pairs of frames over the years, but they have never smashed or injured me - but have certainly saved me from grit in my eyes on many occasions.

I’d be interested to know how you get on, but as I’m now in varifocals, suspect sports frames aren’t an option for me.

You can certainly have wrap round varifocals in a sports frame. I got a pair of Tag Hauer frames fitted with varifocal, reactolite lenses 8 years ago and have only just given up on them because my prescription has changed too much. I have now bought a pair of Oakley wrapround frames and am having my new prescription lenses fitted in them. Not a cheap option but I got snow blindness skiing in my usual glasses and I wouldn't want to risk that again. Not a cheap option but you only get one pair of eyes

I’ve always just ridden in my regular specs. I’m really fussy about fit, and swapping frames even with lenses of the same prescription tend to give me headaches.

These are my wrap around prescription Oakley polarised varifocals. Fantastic things.

I went for the most wrap around version that I could get to keep stray sideways sunrays out of my eyes.

I don't ride in them, though, I use them for cycling, driving and hiking mainly.

These are my everyday flexon frames with reactolite varifocal lenses. They are uber tough, this pair is 3 years old, my previous pair lasted 7 years and are still good enough for spares. I wear my glasses all day in an active lifestyle, and am not as careful with them as I should be.
