Just keeping my options open (altho i think im pretty set on the Ideal Dressage)....

But does anyone have the Prestige Leonardo? Looks like a nice comfy saddle and i just wondered what i rode like? Having never ridden in a Prestige of any sort i have a clue!

ETA - or the Bates Innovia Dressage?

I had 4 or 5 of these on my jumpers and looooooooooooooooved them. They fit beautifully and were the most stunning leather. I since switched to dressage but I swear to this day, ive never sat in anything as comfy or that *looked* and *felt* (in terms of the leather), so very very posh!

We had a master saddler on the yard last week and i was asking about these. He said while he doesnt sell as many of them as say, the albions (to the dressage people at least) - those who did have them, loved them. He also commented (which i agree with), that they are much less Germanic than many of the dressage saddles including, ironically, Albion again.

Im not quite sure which model it is you're looking at since it's not listed here:-

But they seem to have a good selection depending on whether you like the big whacking knee rolls or not.

I really like them. There's much less leather than with the albions and have such a lovely classic look. What I cant tell you anything about, is how they fit. The jumping saddles were all close contact naturally (so theres no way in hell i'd get one on my WB), but im clueless on the dressage

Well worth a look i think PG - but let me know your opinion if you do.

ETS - hate bates personally

hmmm thanx for that....ive never sat in a Bates saddle either, they look ok, but i dont think they will be suitable for Archie.....Problem is there isnt a 'Prestige' saddler near me....

This is the one im interested in

Ok going to be no use whatsoever lol but it certainly looks lush PG

Hb

ETS if you are going to spend that amount of money on a saddle wouldnt you be better pushing for another Ablion? or wasnt I supposed to say that

*runs*

They are lush... you know how some saddles just *feel* really really posh ? :P

If my horse didnt have withers like a mountain peak, I'd have a jumping saddle in a heart beat just for that once a week when I decide to pop fences... oh and so i could clean it and touch it

cant afford another albion, at £1750 its WAY out of my price range. I could scrape to a Prestige, but theres noway i could get enough for another Albion!!

Im getting more tempted by one now.....however like i mentioned above there is no Prestige fitter near me

ETA - the only thing that worries me about the prestige is they dont do 17'5, which i need, and 18 would be too big and a 17 too small.

Why not but a 2nd hand saddle ??? Instead of a new one. This is what I ahve done SOOO many times, meaning that I get a much better saddle for half of the price and I don't have to break it in!!!

because i need to get it fitted to Archie and me, i have no clue what size he is or anything. Plus i often have to have the flaps lengthened and made to fit me as i have really long legs from my hip to my knee.

Oh rite. Well I have had a great deal of luck in being able to find a saddle that fits. I ahve quite a good eye. I managed to get my last one from Ebay Germany for 400 pounds and it fit perfectly!

If I wanted a new one, I'd put in on the Credit Card!!!

Don't know about the dressage aspect, but i fell in love with a Prestige (Paris !?) jumping saddle when i was at Norton Heath before christmas. The quality of the leather, and the overall build and image was of an extremely high class saddle....mind you at nearly £1500 it was not cheap either

One day....

I am lucky enough to have two.

did have a second hand albion but hated it so p/exed it for a new Prestige Leonardo - it is heaven, puts you in a fantastic position and (I think) due to the cut of the flap, frees the shoulder up fantastically. So then bought an even more comfortable one off ebay for my pone, who promptly decided he needed to retire!!! Love them, couldn't recommend them highly enough, and imho Albion don't compare for comfort and position. All that said, if you like Ideals..... dunno

I feel like I am slopping about all over the place in them - so maybe if you like these a lot you may find the Prestige a bit 'holding' (very secure deep seat). If you were really interested, may be worth speaking to the uk agent to see if she can help with supply to you direct? Seem to recall she is Suffolk way - whereabouts are you?

Have no idea about the Prestige, but i have Bates saddles, which i love. What i was going to say is that a dressage rider tried and tested the Bates Innova for H+H, there was an article about it a few weeks back. She scored it VERY highly, couldn't fault it and has even bought one i think. She said it sits you into a perfect position and her horse loved it (I THINK it was a WB, but don't count me on that, lol).

Hope that helps

I find this in my Ideal, hence why im selling it and bought a Bates. It came with my horse and TBTH i hate it! I know everyone has their own tastes/preferences, but i rode in my friends one as well and i really really don't like them.
What I'll say is if you don't like being put into a position then i suppose Ideal saddles are good.

i havent heard that about the ideals......i havent yet ridden in one, im waiting for one to come into stock so i can try it out. I love my albion, find it really comfy, however i like the idea of being held into place by the prestige saddles.

There just really isnt anyone near me who fits them, it would cost me a small fortune in call out charge

If you are a serious dressage rider - you will NOT want a saddle that holds you in place. My trainer wouldn't allow me one - my dressage saddle for my best horse has NO KNEE rolls at all - in fact I had to sneak a little velcro knee pad from the jumping saddle into it!!

You need a saddle that allows you freedom of movement. The Prestige one does not sound right for that!

Thats really interesting, and i can see your point, but most top riders have saddles that really look like they hold them?! Sorry if im wrong im no dressage expert. I think if i was really into dressage id definitely want something with some hold, but thats just me
grin.gif

Because of the length of my leg from my hip to my knee i have to have a saddle with large Knee blocks, otherwise my knees dont fit in the saddle properly, as advised by my saddler and my trainer!

Claire, If you look carefully at a lot of the TOP TOP riders, they will have saddles with a smaller knee block, I'm not saying don't have a knee block at all (I have a really long top leg as well) All I'm saying is that having one that holds you ridigly in the saddle will not allow the freedom of movement important to true dressage.

From what I saw of the prestige saddles, they are a little too "hold you in place" !! Bit like the Jaguar which gives no freedom of movement!

I came off a pony that I had a showing saddle on and I guess I'm just used to ahving a saddle with no/very little knee block. My trainer has said that it has given me a much more secure seat! Well that and waiting for the new saddle to come - I had to ride in my XC saddle (onyl one that fit) so I ended up riding with no stirrups for about 5 weeks!! OUCH!

TDS has 2 - 17.5 blk Suzannah 1650 one medium one medium wide going out to him end of this week so you will have one to try next week. I do hope you like it as i love mine just enough support- but it all down to personal preference and i applaud you for being sensible and getting a fitter out to get a saddle to fit you and your horse! You may need a slightly more forward cut version if you are long hip to knee but this can be done no problem - also remember we can do any leather finish you like!

Cullohill - you are good sales person!!
wink.gif

Have been having a look at your newer saddles and I humbly apolgise for my assumption that they were lumpy (but old ones are!). The newer ones look really very nice and good value for money. Something to consider if I ever need a new saddle.

You could come to Spain on holiday to fit it for me

the thing is a love our products so i suppose sales pitch comes out?!?

we have come on in leaps and bounds and our new ranges are a huge step up and we are aiming at a totally different market - our 1650 is now being bought by a lot of top dressage riders over here which is good to know!

yes please keep us in mind and just contact me if you ever need any further information!!

I've got the Prestige Sidney jumping saddle and I love it. It is so comfortable and keeps you in a really good position. It is definitely one of the nicest saddles I've ever ridden in! I would love to have one of their dressage saddles. I don't think you can go wrong with a Prestige - they really are made beautifully
