I’m feeling very shaken after an incident with my dog, this morning.

My Dad meets me at a local fell where he takes my dog for a walk while I see to my horse (keeps Dad active and means Banjo doesn’t have to wait in the car)

Banjo (substantial Lurcher) has always been very dog reactive and in his younger days was always muzzled as he was super aggressive, i also avoided ‘doggy’ areas and busy times, he’s also NEVER off lead. Anyway, he’s 14 now and no where near as aggressive, he’ll bark once but generally can’t be bothered now, but i still avoid any confrontation with other dogs- this is all to show how pro active i am in keeping him and others safe.

Anyway, as I pulled up to collect Banjo, I noticed a car with a rottie puppy and some kind of bully outside it, eating. Immediately, I knew i had to intercept Banjo and my Dad so they didn’t meet the other dogs. I got out of my car and started looking for them but there was no sign, then my worst fears, i heard a dog fight begin 😢 I sprinted around to my dad’s car, screaming, making myself as big and as scary as possible, my Dad had just kicked the bully so it had backed off a bit and then ran away when it saw me but was still watching. At this point the owner came over to catch it. Luckily Banjo only had a couple of little marks but him and Dad were very shaken. I was obviously very angry at the owner (dog was loose and had found Dad hiding with Banjo to keep out of its way) but the owner was also shaken up and apologetic, he said it wasn’t an XL but it must have been VERY borderline

Banjo is sleeping it off and will have a few quiet days to calm his mind, but it’s really shaken me up and I’m replaying it so much. Thankfully he’s a big dog so could still handle himself, no doubt thanks to the adrenaline but i don’t wish for a repeat of that!

I wouldn’t like to chance my 14 year old dog with a probable xl bully and a Rottweiler. And what about your old Dad? Or some other innocent walking their dog?
Have you reported it to the police, registration number, etc?
They will at least caution re being in close control in a public place, maybe investigate the status of the attacking dog.

No, i didn’t either hence trying to intercept them and Dad hiding 😢

I didn’t get his reg, i was trying to make sure Dad and B were ok. In all honesty, i think the guy was homeless and living in his car so I doubt it was registered to an address

Im sorry this happened.

A few days and im sure your boy will be okay.

Its perfectly normal to replay the event over and over. You may find sleep doesnt come too easy tonight.

You will also feel much better in a few days.

I hope your dad is okay, too.

Jesus, I wouldn’t like to chance living in a car with a Rottweiler and an xl bully, either.

Thanks everyone, we’re all good. Banjo never really has any hang ups when he’s had confrontations, and he got his librela jab the next day so was on springs 🤣 Dad is also fine

I have stopped the replays, thankfully, but was apprehensive about returning to the fell today but as I expected, there was no sign of the guy and his dogs (I’d never seen them there before, either)
