YO asked me this morning how much another livery should ask for her horse.
He's not been advertised but another party has asked the owner if she would sell. Owner has had very, very limited time over the past 2 or so years and probably only rides once every other month. She paid 2k for him 6 years ago, when he was just backed.
He's about 16hh, coloured heavy cob with 2 blue eyes. He's not done anything competition wise, but has hunted a few times (not recently) and done a few cross country training things (again, not recently). Not the best schooled in the world, but is a very nice hack, goes when he should, stops when he should, not a kick-a-long amd doesn't pull your arms out! He's either 11 or 12, lived out naked for the past 2 years, very good doer, but happy to come into a stable (is on grass livery). Good with all usuals, clip, catch, traffic etc but doubt if he's been on a lorry since he arrived! He is super comfortable to ride, will never, ever win a beauty contest and is a type that doesn't come up very often in our neck of the woods!
I reckon 2.5k would be a realistic price for him (YO was shocked, she thought about £500, bless her, as he's done nothing!). He's not 'for sale' but the owner would let him go to the right home as she could keep him forever as a pet (rather than somebody either hammering him about or selling him on). Any ideas on current, realistic prices that good hacking weight carriers are actually selling for?
Big, heavies are rarely for sale here on the Isle of Wight!
