OMG just changed onto shavings as my ponio doesn't "do" well on easibed (in other words she is a messy C**). Anyway went to feed merchant to purchase said shavings only to find that i now have to pay £8.00 per bale and they aren't even the best ones that they sell as they had sold out of those!!!!!

PLUS i was told the prices on all equine feeds/bedding was being looked at again so probably another hike in prices on the way.

When i were a lass they used to be £3-4 per bale. What the hell is going on i wasn't young that long ago!!!

A standard bale of shavings round here is nearly £7 a bale now, I remember when a good bale was under a fiver, cheap stuff £3-4... and that was only a couple of years ago!

I live on an island and there are only two feed merchants - both of which charge similar prices

The yard i'm on bring in easibed and most of the yard is on that - its £6.50 per bale. Just my luck that horsey turns stable into pigsty on that so it was back to good old shavings for me.

Oh good thought i was going mad and that shaving were that cheap a couple of years ago well cheaper anyway around the £6.50 mark. I remember when shavings were about £3-4 but that was over 10 years ago!!!!! OMG I'm getting old faster than i realised!!!

Trouble with shavings is they are made from wood and currently there is a world shortage in wood. This means that anything made from wood, fencing, stables, shavings etc are all having to put their prices up.

Where do you get that from then? I doubt either feed merchant over here stocks that tho.

Its the price of shipping that is hiking up the prices what with fuel increase etc.
