Price - Irish horses VS WB's??

Just found out my horse had some of the best ISH breeding - he was very cheep!! Less than £3k as a 6yo....

Irish horses have got to be better than WB's - all the way!! Why do people pay soooo much for a warmbloods??

Probably because WB's come from the continent - ie. they had far more to choose from to "invent" the WB? Irish horses IMO lack the quality of WB's, although saying that I've had a WB - would never have one again and would buy an Irish over one because IMO they have far better temperaments and attitudes

I also think warmbloods are currently "trendy" and as such some misguided people (and am talking about myself here) will pay over the odds for something because it looks flash and has a brand on it's arse!

Having learnt from my mistakes I wouldn't go back there. My current horse is SF (so basically a french TB!) crossed ISH, and that's a nice match. Much cheaper too for what she's done and will do.

It really boils down to what discipline you want the horse for anyway.
 
Yea I think you're right - they don't look as pretty or flashy so they are cheaper. My horse has seriously hairy legs and trots round like an old ID.

I just think it's crazy what some people will pay!! a friend of mine has this HUGE WB, he's lovely but they paid a fortune for it "to event" when realistically all she'll ever dare do on it is dressage and 2 foot high jumps!

Much prefer rish horses, yes they can be a bit more "common" but that is because they have a bit of pony blood and are tougher and stronger!!

Although think mine has a fair amount of cart horse in there somewhere....lol!! Although to be fair, all alot of the ISH's are are draught horses crossed with finer "hot bloods" which is exactly what the continental horses are, just with a more structured breeding plan, which is good in some ways, but when the cross breeding etc comes in, not convinced if it is good for the "end product" or not...
 
Well i've got one of each and they are both fab. I paid a relatively high price for Ru (WB) because i was willing to pay extra for his breeding, movement, conformation and temperament. I also prefer the ride of Ru to Gem, he is a lot more expressive which i really enjoy (although god help me when we come to do medium trot!)
 
i think it depends on the individual horse. My pony (ISH x cob) is fab, really willing and talented but sensible, however i know more than one ISH who is a bit "tapped", and i'd rather a good warmblood then them any day.
I think if you are going to go for a warmblood then Dutch and German WB's have generally the better temp's out of them all. My dutch is especially sensible, he's talented and anyone's ride! however IMO give French WB's a v.wide birth - never met a sane one!
