Price of a cross breed puppy

I'm not sure they would rehome to us because most of their dogs aren't good with cats.Hence deciding that we would need to go for a puppy. Its a shame as I would prefer to rescue

You could try smaller private rescue where they vet people on an individual basis rather than have blanket rules to filter people out.

Pointer x IWS? I'd check myself into the funny farm and have done with it :p :p :p

What if the spaniel was an Irish Water Spaniel??!

Was that the dam? Cos I can't believe the owner wouldn't go for a mismate jab. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't want to cross that with anything, they're still pretty scarce.

Description of them:

Irish Water Spaniels are slow to mature and can be headstrong and willful. Although they are also intelligent, alert, mischievous and fun loving. They are quite clown like and are sometimes referred to as the “clown of the spaniel family”. It is their intelligence that gives the IWS a reputation as a comedian, as they are inquisitive and often use their own initiative in ways that can surprise, delight or frustrate their owners.

Only one litter available in the UK on Champdogs, 2 on the breed club who says theyre a vulnerable breed. Dunno about kC site, can't find any mention of puppies.

My parents have an English pointer and I must say she is anything BUT calm an biddable! They aren't the most experienced dog owners though.

Dont give up on a rescue , we got a pup from the Dogs Trust two years ago. She is GSD x something very very fast !!. This is the latest irish craze apparently. Cross an aggresive with a fast supposedly. They failed big time as she is the soppiest lump and most beautiful dog we have ever had. We paid £100 inc spaying

How much would you expect to pay for a cross breed puppy? The litter was a result of an accidental mating so not a designer cross. Both parents are gundogs, kennel club registered, health checked etc

Thanks

sorry don't know I always adopt rescue dogs.

We have a designer cross and I am proud of it. She shortly will have her own web site and we will be breeding a new designer breed and be famous and everyone will want one...

Or Not.

She is greyhound x (Kennels and vet think) labrador, dumped with the rest of her litter on the M6 and ending up in Greyhound rescue. Adoption fee including speying £100. One of the theories is whoever bred the litter put 'speed with retrieval instinct' for coursing. And then kept what they wanted and dumped the rest - our bitch is quite heavy for a lurcher.

The market for dogs is such an insane thing. Our bitch is SUPERB with children, other dogs, brilliant in the house (asleep right now), a willing learner and an all round fantastic companion.

I really cannot understand how one labrador cross is 'worth' hundreds' and the other only a bin bag.

PMSL, never heard that one before!! Who is saying that?
I've met one or two, at most, ever, one in a vets, and yes, she was a big lump who just wanted belly rubs.
GSD lurchers were discovered to be rubbish working dogs a couple of decades ago, while there may be one or two good ones out there, they are generally just too different genetically/in their utility, to be of any use as a hunting dog or indeed a guard dog.

Haven't read the whole thread, OP have you called the sellers and had a chat with them?

My JRT was caught a couple of years ago which was partly her cunning but mostly my fault for not making sure her kennel was 110% escape proof whilst she was on heat. We advertised puppies at £300 each as they were quite a fashionable cross and we didn't want to attract any idiots - once people came to view them and we knew they had a genuine interest we told them they were £50.

We don't breed and I'm not sure whether the way we went about it was sensible but I was very wary that £50 is not a lot of money and advertising them at that might attract people who haven't properly thought through the implications of having a dog.

I suspect if the price isn't lowered it would be because Irish Water Spaniels are sought after and the owner is hoping that even a cross will generate a few quid?

I bought a Jack Russell X Patterdale. I paid £200 for him. He was orginally advertised as £250, although having a salesman as a partner we got him cheaper. My dog will be 1 year old on 28th of this month. And he is worth every penny! His temperament is excellent and loves my 3 year old neice! I wish I had got him and his brother.

I had him checked over by the vet and he said that he was a "fine specimen" which was rather happy about :)

Wasn't the labradoodle one of the first designer crossbreeds, which was bred to try and create a Guide Dog that didn't moult. I have read recently that the originator of the cross now regrets doing it as so many have jumped on the bandwagon.
Re price of a cost, I would say around the same price as rehoming from a charity, e.g. around £100 -150.

ETS Here is what the man credited as first person to breed the labradoodle has to say

Aww well I don't regret buying a Labradoodle. I had no idea what I was buying - he just looked gorgeous. I did think what a lovely mongrel though...and I actually wanted a mutt. He is quite frankly the nicest, most intelligent dog I have (I have 3 dogs). Such a nice natured dog and so trainable. I have had him 4 years now and I love his very bones. We paid £450 for him
I also have a well bred Springer spaniel that I paid £350 for and a 5 month old Jack Russell who it turns out has an overshot jaw. (I paid £100 for him)
I love them all - but without a doubt the best of the 3 is my mutt Stig.
This is him in typical pose:

For what it is worth - we tried many times to get a rescue dog, but none of the charities would let us have a dog due to the fact that we had small children and I worked 12 hours a week
Ridiculous....but there you go

Neutering is the only way forward I feel - Stig & Toby are already neutered and Badger will be done as soon as he matures sexually.
