Someone loaned me an 18" brown Thorowgood Griffin saddle (hi-wither model) in a medium width to use on my TB until my Kent and Masters saddle comes and they said I can buy it if I want, to use as a rainy day saddle to keep my leather K&M one for good.

They are asking £150 for it and I was wondering if that is a good deal for it (it's in very good condition). It fits me and Hattie but needs reflocking up though as it's a tiny bit wide for her due to the flocking inside packing down. It doesn't have a changeable gullet, Fish slots or the changeable selecta flaps though.

I've not bought a 2nd hand synthetic before so am unsure if this is a good deal or not and I've not seen one like this one on Ebay either to gauge the price, all there seems to be on there are black wide cob Thorowgoods, not many brown hi-wither models.

I do like the saddle and am really tempted!

Hi , as far as Im aware the Griffin is no longer available . If it fits you and horse then I'd go for it . 2nd hand saddles or only worth what you are prepared to pay so if you feel its right for you and your horse you can afford it Id buy it . I dont feel £150 is too much to pay for something thats right ( well with a little flocking ! ). Maybe Id get a saddler to check that it can be flocked to fit , some saddles cannot always take extra flocking but if its just gone abit flat then it will prob be fine to do . Id speak to your saddler just to be sure .

Hmmm, sounds okay. However for a saddle that needs a bit pf flocking and is a bit older, it is a bit on the steep side. I'd make them an offer of slightly less, but if you really like it, go for it!

If they were kind enough to loan it to you for that time, it would be a nice gesture to buy it off them, but you could probabally find a cheaper one on somewhere like ebay.

Thanks guys for the opinions, I'm going to have the saddler come out on Wednesday to do the flocking and see what they say. I like it as it looks like a T4 (which I was going to get before I decided on the K&M).

Ah ha! I think they still make them! I just found one on Ayr Equestrian, this is the exact same one as mine!!: http://www.ayrequestrianshop.co.uk/thorowgood-saddles-synthetic-i439.html
If they are £289 new, I suppose £150 for mine isn't such a bad deal since it's nearly new plus they said I could have the matching brown Thorowgood stirrup leathers with it too.
So I guess depending on what the saddler says, I'll get it then!
