Hi our yard is changing it's pricing structure and will work out cheaper for me to supply own hay. There is limited storage and YO is offering their own big round bale hay for £25 which I think is very reasonable. However I have never brought big bales ony small so just wondered what people thought? The hay is cut off their own fields and it what he is currently on so no worries about that. Thanks

I think thats a very reasonable price.
With the bigger rounds you'll get more out of it than you would your smaller bales if you worked it out so that'll work out cheaper too.

XxX

I always get small bales of decent hay cheap through my o/h but recently bought a big bale (round) from a local place and was really really surprised how long it lasted- even with my horses nets being heavier than usual. Mine were also £25 so i would agree this is a decent price to pay.

£45 for a round bale  Think i'd have to sell up if they got to that price! We pay £25 for round and £30 for big square ones so i think that's a good price you're paying :)

Last year it was £25 a bale; this year it's £33 but the bales are gigantic - 10ft long and 2ft 6 wide and high but my supplier only sells to his regular clients. A bale lasts my two a good three weeks.
There is a local ad offering 8ft bales at £60 each . . . . and he knows where he can put those! That's just plain racketeering

square bales round here (north somerset) are £30. small bales from this years cut are going for £4 a bale!
our round bale of haylage is £25 and lasts 7 horses just over 2 days. but its making my mares bum very very dirty so looks like i might have to rethink her diet.

Chico7 your pics are huge can you make them smaller as they are distorting the screen!!!

l buy big 6 string heestons,(one usually lasts 2 big horses a month) usually £30 a bale, the farmer l get them off has sold all of his and the new lot he is getting in next week are going to be £80 each. l have phoned every number l can find, no-one seems to have small bales and large round or heestons are £70 plus delivery. They want to deliver 10 bales or more!!!!

God knows what is going to happen when we get past Xmas or are farmers holding it back to get more money!!!

Our yard has the large heston bales (like the ones you see going up and down the motorways on the back of lorries) and...

Straw is £25
Hay £30
Haylege £32

They all went up by £5 on the 1st November :(

We aren't allowed to buy in our own so the YO has us over a barrel with how much he charges however i don't think the above esp in the current climes is that bad and is about average.

I think £25 for a round bale is about right.
