Depends on the acreage - most contractors charge so much an acre for mowing, turning and rowing up, then per bale for baling and wrapping. Mine usually works out at about £12 per bale (Heston size, triple wrapped) for 11 acres, not usually a heavy crop. The heavier the crop the more the acreage cost is divided between the bales.

With the way last season was, it will probably be cheapest to buy the haylage in compared to getting someone in to make it. There are many bales left over around the country.

Unless you have a decent block, 10 acres minimum but 20 plus better, the contractor will have to factor in a lot of travel time to the job so it gets expensive.
You also run the risk of baling up a load of grass that turns out to be unsuitable for your horses, and still having to buy in.

Mowing 12/acre
Turning 6/acre x 3
Raking 6/acre
Baling 3.50/bale
Wrapping 5/bale
Collecting and stacking 35/hour.

If unfertilised old pasture assume around 7 bales/acre.
