Hello
We have a farm and have been approached by horsey people for hay - the hay is very good quality, specially grown meadow hay. We normally sell it all as one lot or keep for own use. This year we have 4000 small bales and 1000 round bales - so how much would people pay for good quality small bales and for good round bales. Hay is clean, tightly bound, dry and well stored.

Just have no idea of prices at mo???

I will be paying £2 a bale for small ones if thats any help

What part of the country are you?
Hay can go for anything from £1.50 to £5.00 a bale depending on whether it is picked up or delivered and where abouts you are and hay availablity

And what about round bales?? Lots of people are asking us for these and no idea what to charge.
Thanks for any help!

6 yrs ago when I lived in Surrey people were paying an average of between £3 and £4 a bale.
I suppose it depends how much each bale cost you to produce.
I would ring round some local supliers to get an idea of how much people are paying..

I think I paid £25 for a big round bale when I last bought one.

ETA: I may be way out then judging by the reply before mine! I can't really remember!

Yep a round was £15 delivered but we are in Devon

We are in Essex and our hay, very good meadow hay, organic if you like!, sells for £3.50 a bale small. We haven't done big bales for a while now as not many horsey people had the equipment but when we did they were £20 a bale.
HTH.
Also we can easily store ours all winter, we sold the last bits of last years in June

I have just secured my winter stock of good meadow hay for £2.50 p/bale. It will be stored for me and I can go and collect it in small amounts at a time if I want, which is very useful.

Big round bales average at about £20.00 per bale in my neck of the woods.

I'm also in Kent - just paid £2.65 per small bale delivered and stacked for 70 bales. It's unsprayed ragwort free meadow hay. Was paying £3 through winter for deliveries of 10 small bales at a time. Hope this helps

Also in Kent - just paid £3.00 per bale delivered (200 bales). Very, very good quality hay. My supplier knows my horse suffers with allergies, so pre-selects the coarser stuff for us as it aggravates him less. It also has low rye content (another allergen to him) so I don't mind paying this.

West coast of Scotland - hay is a CRIPPLING £5.50 per small bale!!

Can't get hold of larger ones. Haylage is cheaper (big bales) but not much use in the summer!

got some lovely rounds delivered today, fantastic stuff, £28 a round delivered, squares are around £3.50-£4 a bale here just now [ Edinburgh ].

Currently paying £4.70 (standard bales) from YO. Looking at these replies I think I am paying too much

, however don't have much room for storage so I am a bit limited. (I am in Essex by the way)
