How much do you think hay is going to cost this year? I am hoping to buy some of the field, the big square bales and just wondered if anyone knows what they are going for?

Think there about £40-£50 where i live. But my mare has pulled a tendon so she's out 24/7 for the summer so first time ever i dont have to buy any hay or food!

i normally have the small bales which are £2.50 each from the farm where my horses are kept, he as just ran out so had to buy a large square bale which cost me £22.50 delivered, not bad

omg i'm glad i don't have to pay that much

The farmers are putting there prices up this year due to cost of diesel and petrol, Haylage wrap is made with Petrolleum so has gone up hugely hence the haylage prices going up even more! I make my own big round bale haylage and sell it at £25 per bale but the farmers are going to charge around £30 -£35 per bale apparently!

oh a farmer, but as we are up in bonnie scotland sure our prices will be much less than down south. one thing i do know is we've had much better 'hay making weather' this year so hopefully that should help keep the price down. last year was so wet it was difficult to make decent stuff. i'm lucky i get mine for free...........

ive heard our prices are nearly going to double this year, thank god im getting a crop off my field, hopefully that will save us quite a bit, plus were hoping we might get twice as much as we need so hopefully it will store for the next year

I think hay prices depend very much on the weather at haymaking time. If there is a good crop prices will go down, but if it is like last year and not much is made people will start asking silly prices. We are making our own this year and praying for good weather, will I suspect have far more than we can store so will have to sell some off the field. I am not sure how I calculate price for this, I don't want to make a huge profit just cover costs. Trouble is the farmer never sends the bill until near Christmas so may have to guess a bit. Anyone in Shropshire/Cheshire needing small bales watch this space!
