Am I totally out of touch here ? I've just seen the new Schockermohle riding tights, and they are 5p short of £110 !!! Happy to ge proven wrong, but how on earth can that price be justified for fancy leggings ?? Or do you get what you pay for? I can 'almost' understand that price for a very smart pair of breeches, but leggings ??

I just wear sports leggings - don’t actually see the difference. Less than £20 with a phone pocket and everything 🤷‍♀️.
Same, I wear Tesco sport leggings at home to ride. For training I wear riding tights which have "Horse Rider" written down the thigh, cant remember the make exactly but they were cheap (think £15!) and I have a summer pair of them and a thicker winter pair - theyre great

I don't think I've bought new tights or breeches in years. I buy from tack sales - usually people have pretty good quality ones for sale at low prices. I've just got a pair of dublin breeches with a suede (ish) seat for £5 as the lady bought the wrong size so they were more or less new. I've got a few pairs of riding tights with tags on from tack sales too for only a few pounds.

Round the 'yard' if I'm not planning on riding I wear gym leggings.

I don't like giving my money to other people at the best of times lol.

I saw those ones in the email this morning too and thought it was a bit extravagant for leggings. I usually buy from vinted or ebay so maybe my perspective is skewed.

Sounds like this company https://jodhpurs.uk/

I have their balance riding tights which are a bit like noble outfitters copies but cost more than the basic. I buy when they're on special offer. First pair still look new 3 years on.

However though £100 plus is expensive, there is a level of getting what you pay for.
I've had cheap riding tights and non horsey leggings that haven't even lasted a year.

I wear breeches (actually years ago I used to wear jeans as it was "fashionable" to wear those stretchy jeans but not when you have a nice saddle!!) and have a few pairs of the Schockemohle Eleonore breech that I really, really like. They seem to repel dirt and grime very well and I find them to be comfy with deep pockets for my phone to slide down my thigh.

What is their sizing like? I'm a small in Flexars (and a size 12 generally but with slim legs so often too baggy) but not very happy with the quality of my newest pair (literally falling apart after less than a year), so going to try another brand. I used to love NO riding tights so these might be a winner!

I bought a Dublin size 12 tights and they were huge but wonder if a 10 might be too optimistic!

I think there can be an element of paying for quality. I like to try and find out what others have found work and last well, and then look what I can find discounted.

I have 4 second hand pairs of Noble Outfitters full seat tights that were about £30 each and last well.

I have 3 pairs of Ariat summer full seat riding tights (all bought about 70% discounted)

I have 2 pairs of winter water resistant full seat riding tights (one again 70% discounted and one full price as a Christmas present).

Do agree paying over £100 for anything to wear with horses feels too much!

I agree generally but I think it depends what it is sometimes - I've spent more on waterproofs, riding boots and riding hats because it's important it's actually waterproof/safe/thermal/up to the job as I do a lot of long, fitness hacks in winter and would rather pay the extra to not be cold & wet 45 minutes into a 3 hour hack and not regret my life choices.

But I'm not fussed about paying extra for a supposed luxury logo on for something like riding tights or a t-shirt!

Sorry yes I should have been clearer I meant tops / trousers / waistcoats. I have spent more willingly on boots and waterproofs. Totally agree re not paying more for brand labels.

Though I think Ariat seem to have the edge on breathable, cool, durable, technical riding tights from my surveying, and combined with 70% off offers online, I am happy to wear the brand.

Though the winter, fleece lined, water resistant, Ariat riding tights I bought reduced to £30 are already fraying at the seams . . . .

Oldie here
- what exactly are riding tights and what are they used for?
riding leggings. Like gym leggings but reinforced in the right places so no rubs and dont wear through.

Can be very breathable and technical / thermal or waterproof or standard.

Ahh, thanks
So 2 reasons not to get any - spendy and unflattering 😉

(along with the fact that I've got breeches that may be showing their age but are still very wearable)
I am not young, but once you have worn decent flattering super comfortable riding tights, you wont want to wear breeches any more. They are so much more comfortable. Sad but true.

And they are similar but not the same as leggings as leggings are seriously uncomfortable to ride in and lack the full seat.

Countrydale riding tights are fabulous! They aren’t that expensive and fab quality, we have them in 4 colours 😂 they usually send you a voucher after you’ve bought one pair too so the second one is usually a lot cheaper

From what I see around, the only people skin tight thin material is flattering on are the very slim with zero cellulite.

Some of the expensive ones are much thicker material and have compression. I bought a £60 pair of Kingslands a few years ago for my mum and they make a difference in how long she can ride.
I just use ordinary leggings or sew my own though!

My riding tights are the same thickness as my breeches, maybe slightly thicker and now we don't have the old style elephant ear type jods everything is fitted.

However this is where the quality and design does make a difference amd while no piece of clothing will make my bum look small, my riding tights do look even.

That's why I don't wear cheap leggings or the cheapest tights. I've found a model that is thick enough to provide coverage while not being too hot

I always buy the Ariat riding leggings but only when they’re on sale below £45 as I just can’t justify near £100 for a pair of riding leggings for mooching around the yard!

I agree that it seems like a wild amount of money to spend but I guess it’s like anything really, maybe they are the Ferraris of the riding tights world.

Having said that, I do wonder about the ethics of all these cheap riding tights around… I think the horse world has a lot to answer for in that regard. Cheap ones might do the job but where did they come from? Who made them? What are they made of? And so on.

I expect the main difference between the cheap and expensive ones is you are buying into a brand or rider name. Some of the fabrics may be more durable or hi tech to keep you warm dry cool whatever. Both are probably made in China in sweatshops.

Probably in the same factories but to higher specifications. And there is nothing to say that high tech expensive technical fabrics are any better environmentally, in fact they may be worse.

However where it can make a difference is how long they last and my experience is paying a bit more (not necessarily the very expensive brands) means they are on my legs and not in landfill longer.

Same.

I bought some Ariat tights heavily discounted from Eileen Douglas, and some cheap Shires Aubrion ones.

Absolutely live in them all summer but wouldn't pay full price for any of them.

Same, they also stood up to riding through the woods with brambles catching at them surprisingly well, but I too grab them in sale, from Hope Valley usually.
