If I get them from local feed merchant they are £6.99 a bale but in Scats they are £7 something a bale (can't remember exactly as I try not to get them there!)
I only use Hunters and pay whatever I need to - usually between & £7.50 - £8 delivered. Find cheap shavings are a false economy as use more of them & they take longer to muck out.
Bedmax for £6 from the YO. Bedmax rent a barn at our yard and store bales of bedding in there year round, so YO might get it at a good price to start with.
I have paid £8.20 and £8.40 this year for Hunters from 2 different stockists. Although I like using shavings I think they are too expensive especially with this continual wet weather...they seem to get soaked through so quickly and don't last very long. At that price I have found them too expensive. I have moved to Comfy Bed now and so far finding them more absorbent and more economical.
I get shavings at £5 and woodchip ( like easibed) for £3 a bale. But I do have to collect.
I used to pay £7.25 a bale but one of my 3 is super dirty and wet and the woodchip is great for him :O)
I get natural flake at £6.95 a bale, however I am thinking of changing. I sat down and worked out bedding costs and was a bit when I worked out what I spent on bedding!
I am shocked at the trade price- I thought suppliers would have a bigger mark up than that!
Any suggestions? We did buy pallets once at a cut down price but some *^%£?$?& came and robbed my yard. They left saddles etc but went through everything and just stole shavings and hay (don't get me started on this.. the police even said they thought they knew who it was, but the police don't do anything anyways, you might as well call ghostbusters if you get something nicked!)
I think I could store some in a barn at the moment, and was thinking of buying would pellets.
£7 for woodpecker or £8 for equestrian gold, both and very dust free as mine has a dust allergy! They are big bags aswell bigger than thoroughbred ones. I do remember back in the day when they used to be £5 a bag!
Try going to a wood yard and buy direct. Or find free range or barn chicken farmers. They buy them in in MASSIVE quantities therefore get v good prices.
